Suggestions for Brunch in NYC?

Hi all.
Any suggestions for a good moderately priced brunch spot? I love the more breakfasty side, I'd love to find someplace with unique pancakes or waffles. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I just had a yummy (albeit loud and crowded) brunch at the Grey Dog on University in the Village. There is another one on Carmine. I had fruit and pancakes and amazing banana bread. It looked like it was going to be a long wait for a table, but we were seated and eating in about 20 minutes, so don't let a line deter you that much. It is reasonable and the staff is so nice. The cappuccino wasn't that great, so I went around the corner to the Art of Joe and had their $11,000 coffee machine make me a better one. Cafe Grumpy in Chelsea has one of those machines too if you are a coffee freak like me.

Among our favorites:

Five Points
Blue Ribbon Bakery
9th Street Market
Clinton Street Bakery
City Bakery

That said, they are difficult to get into on a weekend. City Bakery does not have table service anymore.

Where will you be? There are great brunch places all over the city.

We really like Fred's, on 83rd and Amsterdam. In warm weather there is outdoor seating, though the line is a little longer for it.

If it's on a weekend, I really like Old Devil Moon, in the East Village.

For brunch, try Vinyl on 9th Ave near 51st street.

City bakery downtown. Not your traditional bust a gut brunch but owner was countries leading pastry chef once upon a...if not still and chance to people watch.

I also would go to Pasties for breakfast. French and very different options.

You can do the hotel brunch scene in any city, in NYC you want the city experience yes? I would try both.

Danal's downtown I think 10th street and 3rd. if memory serves.

French inspired....gourmet brunch options. Everyone I have ever taken there loved it. Lived in NYC for 17 years.

I think you mean Pastis which is named after the anise flavored liquer.

Pasties are well, something very different. But it is revealing that you should recommend such a place.

Thanks so much to everyone that has responded so far. I have gotten a little more organized and think that we are looking for something in Midtown close to the MET. Any further ideas???

Hi misconduct - do you mean the Metropolitan Museum, which would be more the Upper East Side, rather than midtown? Or the Metropolitan Opera, which would be the Lincoln Center area?

For the museum area, there are probably closer places but I like Sarabeth's on Madison & around 92nd Street.

And for the Lincoln Center area, there's Josephina, across the street on Broadway.

Sorry, I meant the Metropolotin Museum. Thanks for the heads up totorofan!

I can't remember the name of restaurant and it doesn't show up on Yelp.. but there's a really fancy place right across the street from the museum.. although its pricey.. At brunch there I had the most amazing chicken soup.

Here's a map of all the Yelp review restaurants in the area around the Metropolitan Museum:

if you find that location isn't an issue Sarah Beth's is my all time favorite new york brunch place. They have a bunch of locations all over the city and their tomato soup is the best I've ever had.

My husband and I had brunch last year at a place called Eatery. It was the BEST french toast I've ever had. I'm terrible with directions but know it's in the mid-town area. We walked there from our hotel, the Sofitel. Here's the website:http://www.eaterynyc.com/
Their menu is on-line, so you could get an idea of what they offer.

PS-Sorry for the double post on the webiste-I can't seem to get rid of it when I try to edit my post.

Nevermind about the double website--looks like Fodor's took care of it for me!
