Suggestions for a restaurant in Beaufort South Carolina?

We will be in Beaufort one night the end of April and were wondering if anyone had any tips on a restaurant? We like all types of food and it doesn't have to be fancy. Thanks in advance.

Can't give you any advice based on personal experience . . . but Southern Living magazine did a travel piece on Beaufort within the past couple of years that reviewd restaurants. You might find it on their web page.

Southern Living doesn't seem to have anything on Beaufort. Anyone else please?

There's a lot of restaurants between Beaufort and Paris Island, but I mostly recall chains. However, I thought downtown Beaufort was very charming with a lovely waterfront park. There were several restaurants which looked out on the waterfront so I would gamble on one of those. I vaguely remember parking in a municpal lot and just wandering around. We had already had lunch before we got to Beaufort and were just stopping to look around. There are benches and a walk along the water where you could spend some quiet time. Then walk across the park to one of the restaurants. We were there in early October and the weather was beautiful. Sorry I don't have a specific recommendation but if you are staying on the outskirts of town, you might miss the park entirely.

Try the Anchorage...haven't eaten there personally but it has a great reputation. The Gullah House, across the bridge does as well, and was recommended by our daughter's in-laws, who live there. We lived in Savannah at the time and all but one of our trips to Beaufort were day trips only, so I'm not all that familiar with the restaurants, but this may be a start for you. We've eaten at the Shrimp Shack out on St. Helena Island as well...snacking before returning home. It was truly a shack but great fresh seafood--we really enjoyed it.

Try the Steamer. It's wonderful!
