Suggestions for a Las Vegas romantic getaway??
My husband and I are planning our first trip to Las Vegas in Oct/Nov. Gambling is not the primary attraction -- we are not big gamblers. Rather, we're going for "the experience" of it all including the activity/action, entertainment, restaurants, some gambling, etc. We're leaving the kids at home so we're looking for a "grown-up" experience. Cost is not an issue. Any suggestions for a GREAT hotel, shows not to be missed, restaurants -- both fine dining and more casual, relaxed atmosphere, other sites in the area? We don't want to do much, IF ANY, driving around.

We appreciate your help.

vegas.com also has a great message board to help you. I did a lot of research before we went, but we took our teens. From the research, what we saw when we were there, I would go to Bellagio, Caesar's Palace(Palace Tower, not Roman Tower0. I would also look into Mandalay Bay and the Four Seasons on top of the Mandalay. On the above message board under trip reports, one gentleman tells of his trip and stay here...service is excellent. Mind you it really depends on what you want to spend. Phone directly and ask for their rates and dig around because they usually have different rates, some better than others. We stayed at Paris and the rooms here were very nice, nicer than the regular rooms at the Mirage and the Treasure Island.

Laura, if price was no object I'd choose to stay at the Venetian. Though the Bellagio is supposed to be topnotch, I don't think the snooty atmosphere there would agree with me. Just hole me up in one of those HUGE (700 sq ft in a standard room) Venetian rooms with the elegant baths and I'd be happy.

I've stayed at Bellagio three times and haven't noticed that the attitude of service personnel was any different than that of other hotels except that rudeness is uncommon.
I think that for those who see Bellagio as snooty the problem is with their expectations and personal outlook not the hotel itself.
Mandalay is great, as is Venetian.
Restaurant options are overwhelming. I'd start with a search based on cuisine type.
No need to drive in Vegas if you're staying on the strip.

I would stay at the Bellagio. Great pool, even if it is too cold I would sneak down there at night with your honey for a walk. Also, do not miss the light/water show in front of the hotel. Find a space away from the crowds and watch--really beautiful. Last time I was there they were playing music by Andre Bocelli.

Bellagio is close to the center of the strip and you can walk pretty much anywhere.

Go to Emeril's restaurant in the MGM grand for dinner--great food, romantic atmosphere.

Have fun!

We're actually getting married in Las Vegas in November. We have done several trips there and the previous posters had great ideas. My personal selections are:
Hotel: Bellagio, Caesar's, possibly the new Aladdin - the Venetian is beautiful, but it's too far from the middle of the Strip for me
Shows to see: Mystere, Sigfried & Roy, Danny Gans, O
Restaurants: Any of the Puck (Spago) restaurants, Voodoo Lounge (I think that's the name - it's at the top of the Rio), the nice restaurant at the Monte Carlo (I can't remember the name - but it's the expensive one - well worth the price)
Outside Vegas stuff: Drive to Red Rock Canyon (very close, very beautiful - if you're a morning/evening person - catch the sunrise/sunset view), Hoover Dam - it really is quite amazing
