Carol-Travel agents taint the site because they are biased and receive commissions on certain properties they try to steer people to. There were a bunch of travel agents here a while back actively seeking clients and commissions and were run off. Fodors wants to keep this site unbiased, that is why travel agents are not welcome.

Carol, the name of the beignet place is Cafe du Monde, a French Market landmark.

Diana, don't let the door hit you on the as* on the way out. Gads, if we'd had to listen to your shrill hysteria in person, all of our ears would still be ringing.

Yes, french, Cafe du Monde! Thanks for refreshing my senile brain! The memory makes my mouth water! (Now if I can just remember what is Brannigans or Brennemans or whatever it is...LOL)

Interesting, XXX. I guess, like anything else, a few can spoil it for everybody else. Maybe all of the travel agents worked for Frommers!

Anyway, Joan and whoever else is contemplating a visit, go! New Orleans is an exciting place and not like any others in America. You won't find any Mardi Gras museums in California, that's for sure!

Diana - I am travelling alone to N.O. and staying at the Ambassador Hotel (there for a convention)...will I be safe going to/from hotel and conv ctr at night?

Diana - I am sorry you are getting your butt kicked in this forum. You should be applauded for wanting to give back to a site that has helped you so much. I started to get similar feedback from a posting I put out for assistance regarding Hawaii, and I had to set the record straight PRONTO!!!! Once I did, the conversation steered back to the issue I needed help with. So don't give up on this site just yet. Your motive is honorable and should be positively acknowledged. I do have a suggestion for you on how to avoid this in the future.

Since you know a lot about New Orleans and would like to offer help to travellers, why don't you look for postings on New Orleans and seek to respond to someone who initiates a question about it? I think that would save you a lot of headaches and be able to serve your initial intent on helping others. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Carol:
Do you have any other suggestions for New orleans. I have planned a surprise anniversary gift to my husband for august. I am trying to gather as much as I can so I can least guide us in the right directions.
Everyone has indicated that I should make reservations well in advance for the brunch at the Palace cafe. is there a website I can get the number off? how soon is soon. my trip is planned for August 30 thru the 3rd of Sept.
I have made reservations at Delmonico's as my husband is completely entralled with Emeril and since his retirement a year ago this past May he has been cooking....I love it though.
Any suggestions are much appreciated
thanks
andi
