We enjoy the Hurricane on St.Pete Beach. If you make it in time to watch the sun set it's really special. It's a very casual, fun place. Cadilac Jack's on Treasure Island is also casual with good food. A trip to Bern's Steak House in Tampa is also worthwhile. They have a special dessert room upstairs that is worth the trip to Tampa alone. Enjoy!!

I replied to your jellyfish post. The thread may have been deleted--not because of what I said! LOL It started down the wrong road.

You don't need to worry about jellyfish here. There have only been a few occasions I've seen any and they weren't the stinging variety. You do need to think about the rays though. Shuffle your feet as you walk through the water, just in case one is under the sand ahead of you. They aren't aggressive and will NOT try to hurt you, unless stepped on and only as defense. There are plenty of them around in the summer but are harmless otherwise.

Really good restaurants are few and far between at the beaches. There is only one Mobil 4* restaurant in the Tampa Bay area, unbelievably, and that's in my husband's hotel in Tampa, not on the beaches, plus it's formal which is usually not on a beach goers' agenda. Probably the best out there is Salt Rock Grill and a sister restaurant (Island Grill I believe it's called) just off Clearwater Beach. Bonefish Grill in St Pete (not St Pete Beach) also has a good reputation. We spend virtually every weekend out there and have given up on really great dining. If it's fun and food is decent, it's OK. We normally eat at Backfin Blue in Gulfport--an artsy little town between St Pete and St Pete Beach. I know the Don CeSar is sending some of their guests that way, so its reputation is spreading. It's pretty good, but not WOW food.

A second to Salt Rock Grill. Also, we love the casual restaurant in the Don Cesar. Very fresh, everything prepared to order. Didn't eat at the gourmet restaurant, but heard it was good.

Anyone heard of a Pirate ship in the St. Pete area? Not sure of correct name maybe Captain Memo or Nemo? Does any one knoe anything about it? Is it dining or just drinks? Is there an area for children? We are planning a family reunion in July for about 50. Any info would be appreciated.

when i went down to st.petersburg we got dinner at some place on the Pier. I can't remember the name for the life of me but it was reasonably priced, had good food and a gorgeous view of the water and the lights of the city at night.
