suewoo and any other Charleston, SC experts

We are staying in the Charleston area Christmas week. We have rented a house on the Isle of Palms on Charleston Rd.

What I need is input on good:

Grocery stores
Butcher
Fishmonger
Liquor
Bars and casual restaurants

I'm sure I will think of more...but first order of business is ordering the Christmas tenderloin.

Sue will be along I'm sure but there is a Whole Foods in Mt. Pleasant which should be all of what you list.
Liquor is in an ABC store--big red dot on the side.

Janet, Christmas at the beach will make you happy. Call the nice people at New York butcher in Mt P for all your Christmas meat:

hey have nice wine, cheese and a few prepared items. Stack's just down the street has lovely prepared food ( the restaurant is good too) if you don't want to cook much. There's a liquor store, Bradley's, just 2 doors down in that shopping center. Bi-Lo is there, Publix across the street and my favorite Piggly Wiggly is back up near the butcher.

I don't know where Charleston Rd. is. I'll look it up. IOP is small and there are 2 ways to get into Mt P. If you go over to Sullivans and take the drawbridge you'll be on Ben Sawyer.

Further towards Charleston, after Ben Sawyer changes into Coleman, is Shem Creek. There are 3 fish stores there Mt Pleasant Seafood, and harder to find, Wando and Magwoods. I think shrimp season is over but Magwoods mightt have some frozen. When you come down during the season I'll give you the name of my shrimp guy. Oysters are in season, so try some. (OK now I'm homesick). There are restaurants along the creek but go for the view. The food is better elsewhere.

Do you want IOP restaurant recs? There are a few out there lots more in Mt P.

Do yo

OK I got goofed up - Mental Health was busy today lol.

JanetKMR Dec 7th, 2013 04:03 AM

Yes on the restaurant recs....especially for take out and casual (remember we will have nearly 18 month old with us).

Thank you as always suewoo!

I'll note that Piggly Wiggly has been sold to BiLo so look for that market. They are upgrading.

suewoo Dec 7th, 2013 04:46 AM

Right. The big Pig over off the Connector was sold, but the one on Ben Sawyer is still a Pig.

Janet IOP is small. No fancy places there. My favorite is Sea Biscuit. The Boathouse is a little more upscale with nice views. Acme also fits your criteria.

Thanks :-)

Really. I wonder how that works--I guess location location location. Good to know. all the ones in Pawley's are gone.

suewoo...we had a great meal at Sea Biscuit and the NY Butcher was fabulous. Thank you so much for your help.

suewoo Dec 28th, 2013 01:53 PM

Excellent! I had a flat tire at NY Butcher and they came out to change it. I love them.

Sea Biscuit is a perennial favorite. Come back when shrimp is in season.
