Sudden change of plans, need hotel help please!
 

My 20 y/o daughter is scheduled to leave for NYC on Jan 4th for 3 nights. She's auditioning for scholarship dollars from the Met, but they're staying over the weekend to do the tourist thing.

Originally, 3 were sharing the room and they decided to pull it up and stay at the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park. Worked out to about $300 each for the total stay (or about $300 a night). Well... as luck would have it... one of them has pulled out and now they are TWO! No way they can afford the Ritz splitting it 2 ways, so now they need to find an alternate hotel!

I'm thinking somewhere more midtown (they were only staying all the way out in Battery Park because it was "THE RITZ") - LOL!

Anyway, anyone have a good suggestion for them? Obviously they'd like a smidge of luxury since they had to give up the Ritz, but they need to keep it in their budget as well! Do you think the Times Square area will be just too much? Hilton Times Square or the Hyatt maybe? Would you recommed something in a different area? (staying in Manhattan please). Any boutique hotels they might enjoy and be able to afford?

Any and all advice would be most welcome!

I've never done a priceline bid in NY, but I've done this in several other cities and every time I got an outstanding deal. For bidding guidelines check www.biddingfortravel.com, then make your priceline bid. They might even get the Ritz again for even less money. Good luck.

Another vote for Priceline. They should be able to get a good room for that level. Just be sure to bid on at LEAST a 3*.

I think you have to be 21 to bid on priceline because some hotels have age restrictions.

Priceline only guarantees one bed for 2 people. Assuming they don't want to share a bed, this may not be the best idea.

If neither of them is 21, they have more limited options in terms of hotels. (Not sure the RC would have let me check in if they're all 20). I don't really know any very nice hotels that allow under 21s. The Best Western President in Times Square is reported to allow under 21s. It's not what I would call anywhere near luxurious. But it's safe and clean.

If their audition is at/near the Met (Lincoln Center) On the Avenue Hotel might be one good option if their age isn't an issue.

quikbook.com is a good place to look for prices (and then doublecheck against hotels' own websites). There are lots of good options in early Jan. price wise.
