Subways at night

I'll be staying in Midtown Manhattan in June, I'll be going to a Yankee's game on a Friday Night. Is it safe for 2 woman to be on the subway going from Midtown Manhattan to the Bronx and back in the evening? I've heard from friends different responses.

Perfectly safe, as long as you are wearing blue and white and the NY logo doesn't hurt either!

You'll be on the train and back with mostly office workers doing the same exact thing as you. My husband and his friends do this often and the subway is full of businessmen on there way to the game and back. Not only is it safe, it's a great way to meet guys!

Hi Rose:
Enjoy your visit and thanks for coming! You and 45,000 other Yankee fans will be on the NYC Subway. You just need to use your common sense and be aware of your surroundings. The Number 4 Lexington Avenue line goes right to the Stadium. No changes. The D Train 6th Avenue line also goes directly to the Stadium. Have your Metro Card handy. www.mta.info for maps amd Metro Card information. I have used the subways all my life and at all hours of the day and night and have NEVER had a problem. Lucky, maybe. I just think that being aware and confident speaks volumes. Have fun!!

Hi:
I live in manhattan and take that train at night (quite late) alone and have no problems. Many of the people living along that subway line are either heading to work and/or very residential neighborhoods outside manhattan. Perfectly safe.

Most New Yorkers use the subways to get around, day and night, and they are generally perfectly safe.Especially going to a game - you will probably be crowded on to the train with a bunch of really happy loud Yankee fans ! Have fun!

Very safe, during game time, and fun. Take the #4, if only for the view of the stadium when it exits the tunnel.

Absolutely safe. It will be crowded, yes. Very crowded.

After a game, I usually visit a local watering hole under the train tracks until the crowds thin out.

Enjoy NYC, the Greatest City in the World!!

It's absolutely safe. You'll be travelling with about 30,000 other men, women, and children to and from the game.

Helpful hint: you have a better chance of getting a seat in the train if you are in the first two or last two cars. I'm telling you this because I often see out-of-towners (who are not used to the "jerking around" of the train) getting flung around because they're not used to riding the subway standing up!

Have fun!

Will echo what all the other notes have stated - perfectly safe.
After a game ends the subway platform for the D train is so crowded you might not be able to walk down the flight of stairs to the subway platform until a train has arrived and departed. The elevated platform for the #4 train will also be so crowded you might not be able to get on the first train that arrives. D train if you are going to be on the west side; #4 if on the east side. Going to the stadium trains will also be crowded with workers returning home and people going to the game. Hint for the #4 train going - get on a car near the end of the train. Less distance to walk when you get to the stadium station. Do the same when returning - you won't be crushed by the crowd trying to get into the subway car.

You'll be fine. I'm from the midwest and took the subway, alone, from midtown to Yankee stadium and had absolutely no issues. The subway drops you off a block or two from the stadium and you will have plenty of people to follow / escort you to the ballpark. Be sure to get there and hour before the game so you can visit the memorial park behind the left field wall!

I agree with all that's been said. Just wanted to add that some of the ball players even take the subway. I've seen one and my son even got an autograph.
