subway help

I would like some help to get from Grand Central to South Street Seaport on the subway please, and back. Thank you

From Grand Central take the downtown Lexington Ave. subway (no. 4 or 5 train) 3 stops to the Fulton Street station. Walk down Fulton Street which brings you right into the South Street Seaport.

Purchase a Metrocard at the subway station. You can also purchase at the transportation museum in GC (ground floor, west). Allows free transfers bus-subway, subway-bus, bus-bus. $5 pass allows all day usage on both, normal fare is $1.50 one trip.

I can think of a couple of things to add. Stops along the way... Union Square and Brooklyn Bridge. Middle cars tend to be more crowded during rush hour, front and back less. Don't stand in front of the doors on the platform side. I often see tourists blocking the doors.

The instructions are for travel from the east side. If you are on the west side take the #1 or #2 train to Fulton Street. Fulton St is a major hub and you can get there using the A and C trains which run on 8th Avenue in midtown. The station for the A and C is Broadway/Nassau St.. It is a 10 minute walk from the station to the Seaport.

(Question says starting point is GRAND CENTRAL.) I can only add one thing -- be sure to get on the 4 or 5 train going DOWNTOWN. People occasionally find the right train but get on going the wrong direction. And be aware that it's a decent walk down Fulton Street to the Seaport.

Just adding that the unlimited day pass is $4 (not $5), so 3+ trips makes is advantageous for an all day pass.

If i'm done with my pass early in the evening, i usally give it to somebody waiting on line to buy tokens.
