Sturbridge,MA Thansgiving Dinner

We are looking into having thanksgiving dinner at sturbridge village and was wondering if anyone has eaten thanksgiving dinner on the grounds ?

If we can't get dinner reservations there, has anyone had any experience eating thanksgiving dinner at oxhead tavern or the publick house or salem cross inn?
Thanks
Melissa

Last year (Thanksgiving 2005) Sturbridge cancelled their Thanksgiving Dinner at the last minute citing "overall financial difficulties". More than one family group was left scrambling at a time when many alternatives were already fully booked. Unless you don't mind making crisis-mode changes in your plans, I would not plan on a reservation for Thanksgiving Dinner there.

Google Ole Inn on the Green. It's in the Berkshires and lovely. They do serve Thanksgiving dinner.

Even better would be the dinner at Longfellow's Wayside Inn, near Sudbury. The dining room is very traditional, and the food is wonderful.

My experience over the years at the Publick House has gone from very good to poor .. I do not know about the Oxhead Tavern or Salem Cross Inn .. years ago Salem Cross was wonderful not sure how they are now but the Publick House is definitely not a good choice .. Not sure if the location will work but the Wayside Inn is lovely .. We did Thanksgiving there three years ago .. we had a private room .. food was lovely .. service was very good .. if you are willing to go into Boston .. there will be many .. many wonderful options .. however .. I will say that having tried many restaurants at Thanksgiving .. my family still prefers having it at home ...

I agree with Underhill, I think you would probably do well with Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Sudbury if Sturbridge doesn't work out. It's lovely and genuinely historic (you probably know that Sturbridge is an idealized recreation of an 1829 village), and the food is quite good. I've never had Thanksgiving dinner there (I always cook it at home for a big crowd of family and friends), but we like to go there for special occasions. You can check out their website at http://www.wayside.org/ for more info.

Not sure if you have made your choice but Wayside Inn is our favorite when travelling back east. Dinner on Thanksgiving books early; CALL NOW to see the date and TIME they start taking reservations for Thanksgiving. We tried to book rooms there and they were booked this year but are taking dinner reservations starting October 24th @ 7 a.m. By 9, they are BOOKED. Such a unique place to spend the holiday if not with family.
