Stupid parking question
I haven't done much traveling, but I am going to New Orleans next month, and I will be staying at a nice hotel. Parking is $10, but what I'm wondering is, is that $10 per day, or is it $10 each time I park? What I mean is, if I pay $10 to park when I check in, will I have to pay $10 again after we come back from dinner? Thanks in advance.

Julia

Julia - ask your hotel if that $10 includes in and out service. I think the rate is usually quoted per day, but if it isn't, that could definitely add up. By the way - $10 is good daily parking rate here.

Can't speak specifially for New Orleans, but in many big cities there are two separate parking rates at hotels. for instance, where I live hotel parking would be $20/day in a garage spot or $28/day valet with in /out service. Those who plan to use their car frequently choose the higher priced valet in/out as in the end it is cheaper that paying $20 each time. However, there are others who drive into the city, park their car and don't use it again until the end of the vacation as they take publi ctransportation and abs, therefore, they choose the cheaper rate. Check with your hotel to be sure.

If this is your own car and you'll be driving to/from New orleans, then paying to park is a necessary evil. However, I'll just add that driving is a real pain in the butt in the French Quarter area and you're better off without a car. Do NOT rent one unless you have significant driving plans.

I agree with Meg...$10 is cheap. Some hotels are now around $25 overnight with in/out included.
