Strip House steakhouses

On Open Table yesterday I was surprised to find we now have a Strip House in Naples (Fla). It's at the Naples Grand Hotel. I had heard the one in New York is great. And I know there's one in Las Vegas. Any comments before I go drop the big bucks to try it out? Should it really be worth the money compared to other good steakhouses?

(I do have 3 Open Table certificates for $50 each, so this seems like a good use for one or more of those).

BeachGirl247 Aug 24th, 2007 11:54 AM

LOL, Patrick! When I read this I thought "Strip House" as in
( . )( . ) !!!

michelleNYC Aug 24th, 2007 12:17 PM

beachgirl -- LOL!!

NeoPatrick Aug 24th, 2007 12:22 PM

I think that's the idea. I know the original in NYC has a "bordello" decor of red and semi-pornographic pictures on the walls.

But clever key work, BeachGirl. Can you make them twirl?

frank_and_beans Aug 24th, 2007 12:22 PM

Went to The Strip House in New York a few months ago.

Ribeye was perfect. Their black truffled cream spinach was to die for.

Perfect evening except the seats were way too close (NY thing).

NeoPatrick Aug 24th, 2007 12:33 PM

Interesting, f and b. I read through the New York reviews and several mentioned how for New York it seemed so spacious. But like all such things, the reviews were very mixed.

The general consensus seems to be that the best bet is the namesake "New York Strip".

lisettemac Aug 24th, 2007 12:34 PM

I thought the same thing as BeachGirl! And, there was an article in the NYTimes not too long ago about some upscale steakhouse that is also a nudie bar, so it isn't too far off!!

frank_and_beans Aug 24th, 2007 12:37 PM

Since it was my first trip to NY they seemed way to close for my taste but apparently that is standard procedure for NY.

The decor is as you say burlesque but not overly so.

The goose fat potatoes were excellent as well.

It was a really great meal and I try to go to a steak house on every trip I take.

For your eyes only, Patrick:

( now if this doesn't show I have too much time on my hands this afternoon, I don't know what would!!)

NeoPatrick Aug 24th, 2007 01:10 PM

For the first time since I don't know when, I'm UTTERLY speechless.

JRP Aug 24th, 2007 03:15 PM

Nice Dots Beach!!

GoTravel Aug 24th, 2007 03:27 PM

LOLOLOLOL!

P_M Aug 24th, 2007 03:31 PM

Beachgirl, I'm so impressed with your talent!! If you were here, I would give you a huge tip for giving us that desktop dance. $-)

Now I must ask--Are those real?? ((a))

Patricia_Green Aug 24th, 2007 04:00 PM

P_M and BeachGirl, are you two best friends? If not, let me introduce you. You two are always full of surprises! :)

P_M Aug 24th, 2007 04:05 PM

How very kind of you Patricia. I had the pleasure of meeting BeachGirl at the Houston GTG, and I hope to see her again soon. :-)

starrsville Aug 24th, 2007 04:09 PM

I would have to imagine that I'M Claudia's best friend. We travel in the same circles.

Regards,
Elle

P_M Aug 24th, 2007 04:10 PM

Hi Elle. I have several best friends on this board, and of course you are one of them. :-D

pssssttt....For those who don't already know, I am actually Claudia Schiffer and starrsville is Elle McPheerson. We post to this board incognito, so please don't tell anyone. We mustn't blow our covers.... :$

J62 Aug 24th, 2007 04:17 PM

Never been to the Strip House, but there's a wonderful tapas bar in Austin (Louie's 106) that I like to frequent.

Tapas bar is plain as day when written, over a crackly cell phone it sounds like something different.

Those of you who know Texas (PM) know how every town has many of the other variety.

JRP Aug 24th, 2007 04:21 PM

Dear El and Claud,

Fear not blowing covers. With parentheses like BeachGirl's, you're barely noticeable.

starrsville Aug 24th, 2007 04:24 PM

Oh, JRP, you have OBVIOUSLY not met us :-D

P_M Aug 24th, 2007 04:27 PM

JRP, Elle and I can still stop traffic. :-d

It's funny J62 should mention that tapas bar. I went there once and the next day I told everyone at work how much I enjoyed the tapas bar I went to last night. Their eyes got really big and they gasped. They thought I said I went to the "topless" bar!! :-o

JRP Aug 24th, 2007 04:32 PM

You're right ladies. I've seen BeachGirls's parentheses and dots and they've rattled me, indeed.

You remain initials.

How should I envision you?

Binthair Aug 24th, 2007 04:33 PM

Strip House is my favorite steak house. We have one here in Houston, and there are a lot of steak houses here. Definitely recommend.

rkkwan Aug 24th, 2007 04:51 PM

Should I make the "good" pictures at the Houston GTG public now? ;)

P_M Aug 24th, 2007 05:31 PM

rkkwan: You bet, go ahead and post the "good" pictures. I'm sure your film contains no bad exposures from that GTG. :-))

emd Aug 25th, 2007 04:36 AM

LOL w/my coffee spewing all over the keyboard! This thread makes me sorry I moved away from Houston...much more humor there than on the rest of the fodors board these days.

starrsville Aug 25th, 2007 05:30 AM

Who lives in Houston? Binthair does, but most of the posters don't.

BeachGirl247 Aug 25th, 2007 05:42 AM

Yes, P_M, I do deserve a few tips after my laptop dance for Patrick. And, yes, they're real and they're
s p e c t a c u l a r !

Well, if Starrs is going to continue to impersonate me (Elle) I guess I'll take Cindy Crawford. She does have a hunky husband. :)

Ah, the doorbell. It's the UPS man. Looks like my pole dance kit is here. Practice. Practice. Practice!. ;)

starrsville Aug 25th, 2007 06:35 AM

Hey, BeachGirl! I'm spectacular too! We're a trio now!

Yep, cute hubby and he mixes a mean drink too. Good choice!

BeachGirl247 Aug 25th, 2007 06:39 AM

Cool! Fodor's version of "Charlie's Angels". :)

mcnyc Aug 25th, 2007 06:44 AM

Wow, BeachGirl! That's talent!!! :D

I'm impressed.

Binthair Aug 25th, 2007 06:48 AM

I should say that there are a lot of strip houses here in Houston too. The steak house charges for food but there is no cover.

P_M Aug 25th, 2007 06:55 AM

starrs, the last Houston GTG was when Debi was just released from MD Anderson. AnnMarie_C came in from SA, I came from Austin, BeachGirl came in from OK City, of course the Debi's were there. The locals were rkkwan, drk, and moldyhotelsaregross. (I hope I haven't left out anyone, my apologies if I have) I hadn't thought of this before, but there were more out-of-towners than locals at that Houston GTG.
