Stratosphere Towers in Las Vegas
 

I haven't seen mention of this place from anyone - it looks great on the website & the deals are great - what's the catch?

Besides it is off the beaten path and in a rotten neighborhood that you can't walk ten feet into?

Location, location, location.<BR><BR>If you travel to Vegas and only stay at the hotel you sleep at, this place will be fine. However, if you like to go out and see the sites, it's in a poor location. Besides that, it's an area you won't want to be walking around at nite (so plan on cab fares to get almost anywhere, ESPECIALLY at nite).

Ohhhhh.... Well, then! Can anyone point me to a decent budget hotel where I can play slots & maybe even get a free meal out of it? Also, what about safety for a single woman?

When will you be traveling? There are many great deals right now. Value but decent places with a good location that i would check out:<BR><BR>Flamingo Hilton<BR>Bally's<BR>Alladin<BR>Paris<BR>Barbary Coast (no pool if that's important to you)<BR>Casino Royal<BR>Tropicana<BR>Imperial Palace<BR>(the above list encompasses a WIDE variety of hotel classes, i'm just listing places that are not "top notch" and often have deals, if you give dates, i'll try to recommend the best "deal")<BR><BR>After this list, i would consider downtown.

Will be staying in Vegas the 5th & 6th of Dec., then in Sedona the 7th & 8th. I have to go to San Jose for 5 days for business (was Denver but class was moved). Then it's back to Vegas for the NFR!!! The 14th, 15th & 16th. I am liking how the Golden Nugget sounds - I have heard you get comped better than anywhere there. It would be nice to be close to the Thomas & Mack Center for some celebrity cowboy watching if possible. What is that area like?

For your stay Dec 5-6th (didn't know if these were nites at the hotel or just a 1 nite stay and actually departing on the 6th, but no difference):<BR><BR>Imperial Palace 39/nite<BR>Excalibur 39/nite<BR>Harrah's 45/nite<BR>Rio 45/nite<BR>(all the above thru Expedia)<BR>Flamingo Hilton thru their website, 45/nite (www.flamingolv.com)<BR><BR>Of the above, i would choose Harrah's or Flamingo, both of which have an EXCELLENT location. If location isn't that important to you, there's also the RIO which is about 1 1/2 miles from the strip, and is an all suite hotel (45/nite), but if you've never been to Vegas before i would DEFINATELY stay ON THE STRIP.<BR><BR>Your second stay is going to be more expensive since room rates double or triple on Fri+Sat. I did however find the LV Hilton (NOT on the strip, but i THINK it's close to the Rodeo (NFR?), i'd call the hotel to confirm how far it is) and it's only $49/nite (directly from their website). The Golden Nugget, which is downtown, is pretty far from (where i think) the Rodeo is being held.<BR><BR>Feel free to ask anymore Qs.

a lot of the Rodeo crew stay at Sam`s Town..which is a fun place on Boulder Highway..not close to the strip....1st time you might want to stay on the strip proper...the Strat is okay if you stay in.....loved the Flamingo/O`sheas(for Gamble bit) for location..try out the Barbary Coast hotel(no pool)..and BC for a small casino and good food..check out www.cheapovegas.com for some good reviews on hotels....

The Golden Nugget would be a good choice--my sister says there are lots of Wrangler butts downtown during the rodeo.

My wife and I stayed at the Stratosphere in January of this year and had a wonderful time. The buffets are a little better than average and the American Superstarts show is one of the best bargains in LV. <BR>The casino was not crowded and the payoffs were pretty good. <BR>As far as the area it is located in is concerned,there is valet parking right in front and there is a trolley that goes all the way down the strip, so you don't have to walk in the neighborhood.<BR>The restaurant on top of the tower is very expensive, but quite romantic and the view is incredible.<BR>If you have a car, parking is no problem at the other resorts (either valet or free public parking).<BR>For the price, it is a very good bargain and you can use the money you save on the room will go for tickets to the show.

Avoid the Strat buffet. Although recently remodeled, it continues to be among the worst in Las Vegas. The neighborhood is not great, but is safe if you exercise reasonable caution.

Final choice wound up being Golden Nugget for the 5th & 6th, then Las Vegas Hilton for the 14th & 15th. All below $60/night. Thanks!
