Straightforward Seafood
I will be in Boston for a week in November. I have pre-selected a few restaurants including No. 9 Park. I am looking for recommendations for a simple seafood place that is nothing fancy but offers fresh, good seafood. The kind of place locals go and "roll their shirt sleeves up." I don't want contrived consomme' of this over confit of that with my seafood. Ideas? Thanks!

East Coast Grill in Cambridge.

Haven't been to Boston in a long time but is that place called Durgen Park still open? It was casual and fun.

There are those on this board who feel that Durgin Park is still a great place, but I'm not one of them.

Well, as I said, I haven't been there for many years. I just remember it as a lively, fun place where you sat at long tables with other people. We had lobster -- a hard dish to ruin, I guess. And I vaguely remember something about bread pudding for dessert.

Legals, Skipjacks, McCormick&Schmick, Jasper White's Summer Shack

I dunno. Last time I ate at Legal Seafood (Baltimore) I was not impressed. It just seemed very chain-y and a couple of steps above Red Lobster (or as it's known in my family, Dread Blobster).

I also love the East Coast Grill in Cambridge.
In Boston proper, the Phantom Gourmet rated "The Top of the Hub" in the Prudential center as the top seafood spot in town. Not 100% seafood but plenty of it. mm |
