Stowe: Inn on the Mt info
Has anyone stayed there--its the only slopeside hotel in town. It is much more exp. than the competition but the other places, ie, Golden Eagle, mt road inn, grey fox are a good drive from the mt. We will want to hit the slopes early. Any ideas? thanks.
PS do you know if cell phones work there?

I've never stayed at any of the hotel/motels mentioned, but grew up near Stowe and am very familiar with the area. As far as staying along the Mountain Road, the hotels are only a 5 minute drive to the ski area (Stowe Village to the ski area via Mountain Road is 7 miles). So if you want to save a few bucks, stay at the other places. As far as cell phones are concerned, I assume they will work--if you have digital only service though, you may have a problem. I'm not sure if Vermont has digital service yet. Analog should work fine. Have fun. 12-18 inches of snow predicted for up there today!!!!!!!

thanks for the response. Any thoughts on restaurants?

Well, I can comment on the bar/pub scene. The Matterhorn is very popular for after skiing--it's a lively bar w/bands, has a great brick-oven pizza, and there is a sushi restaraunt tucked around the back. The Shed is a great place to have a few beers (they brew their own) and has a good pub menu. The Rusty Nail is another popular night spot. There are plenty of more "upscale" (for Vermont anyway!) restaraunts--I think there have been some past discussions on Stowe restaraunts so if you do a search on this site you should find some recommendations....

Hi

I live about an hour from Stowe, The previous poster is correct, very short drive to the slopes from anywhere in stowe. The Inn is fine, but there are hotels everywhere. Try Trapp Family lodge for a nice meal. They have a harp player and five course meals, that are reasonably priced. It is snowing like hell right now. expecting another 8 to 12 inches today. Be carefull on the roads. Have fun Erich
