stopover lodgings in Sedona
 

Hello. We will be staying overnight in Sedona late September on our way to the Grand Canyon. We want to explore early evening and then do a Pink Jeep tour in the morning before we leave Sedona. We will be coming from the Phoenix direction. Can anyone suggest a pleasant motel/hotel not in an out of the way position with good parking and quiet clean rooms that would be convenient for the jeep tour? Many thanks.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Sedona and loved it. We grabbed a free hot breakfast before leaving for the Broken Arrow Pink Jeep Tour (the best tour, IMHO). Nice accomodations, wonderful staff, free internet service in the lobby - http://tinyurl.com/f9lxg. I don't think you'll be sorry. In fact, you might want to stay longer, Sedona is magnificent!

Best Western Arroya Roble is within walking distance of Pink Jeep tour. A number of restaurants walking distance and quite a few only a 5 minute drive away. You are also set then to drive up Oak Creek canyon on the way to the Grand Canyon.

The Best Western AR is the perfect location. But, if you aren't able to get reservations there, Sedona is so small that you could stay almost anywhere and still be able to get to a morning jeep tour without any problem.

The Hampton's free breakfast is worth considering.

thanks for the suggestions. I am not sure though that I would dare drive up Oak Tree Canyon (I live in flatest bit of Uk) or is going up not as bad as coming down ?(I have seen coming down described as a white knuckle drive...)

Hampton Inn is on 89A west of "uptown" Sedona; I love this location as it is in a nice Red Rock area in West Sedona and is much less congested and quieter than uptown. It is not in Oak Creek Canyon. Best Western Arroyo Roble is smack in the middle of uptown, w/advantage of walking to tourist shops and some restaurants, but it is also in the middle of the tourist area where all the tour buses stop and it is crowded there. The two areas are very different. As previous poster said, no matter where you stay, you can get to the Pink Jeep tour in less than 10 min.

Driving up or down Oak Creek Canyon is a nice drive and very scenic. I would not miss it- it is one of the most beautiful drives in the USA. I won't drive it at night as it is a two lane road and as you drive up the canyon therea re steep drops off to the side (and of course it is not lit at night). But in the light it is a wonderful drive.

Last winter we stayed at the Best Western Arroya Robles in a freshly redecorated room with a great view of the rocks and a good breakfast served in an attractive breakfast room.

The AAA rate was a good value, and the location is perfect.

I live in South FL which is as flat as a pancake. I was also very nervous about driving Oak Creek Canyon but many posters on this site told me not to be afraid and that I could do it. Well, not only could I do it, but I DID it a few times we were in Sedona. Loved every minute of it and wasn't a bit afraid. It's such a gorgous drive. Just drive it during the day and be sure and stop at Garland's Indian Jewelry in Oak Creek Canyon (not to be confused with their shop in the heart of Sedona). We bought some beautiful, authentic pieces at what I thought were pretty reasonable prices. I should also tell you that if you do elect to stay at the Hampton Inn and are in a big rush to get going in the morning they will supply you with a free brown bag full of breakfast goodies to take with you..another plus!

You are all wonderful! I expect I will be brave and drive the canyon, its just being English and feeling that its the 'wrong side of the road' that makes it seems more frightening!

Hopefully by the time you've driven that far, Hilary, you'll be more accustomed to the car and driving on the "wrong" side won't seem as unnatural. I understand that concern though.

As a Floridian I too have done Oak Creek Canyon, many times actually, and I've got somewhat of a problem with acrophobia to boot, but it isn't a drive I'd ever miss, it is so beautiful. You don't ever feel as if you are clinging to a cliff-side, it's not that bad.

Now, after you've looked at the lookouts and are heading back to your car, do remember to get in the right side of the car, rather than the left...unless you want to drive! In England I perpetually headed to the right side, forgetting that wasn't the passenger side. My DH delighted in asking me if I wanted to drive...knowing full well the answer to that! :)

The Orchards Inn would be convenient for the jeep tour. It is located right in the heart of town and has good parking and great views.
