Stop-over in Dallas
My family and I will be returning to Australia from Florida and are scheduled to change planes in Dallas. Noting I won't have much of a chance to get to Dallas again I would appreciate any thoughts on whether it would be worth-our-while to stopover and spend a few days there to look around and at least say we've been there. My wife, kids and I like to see new cities and generally wander around but I would like comments on other things we could do (see some landmarks, significant sights etc). Thanks - Ian

Ian, here is a great thread on Dallas.
I think its worth a stop but give that a read and see what's been suggested. Maybe that will help you get started. |
Check out my "Trip to Dallas" thread, lots of ideas/suggestions.

Woops! Forgot to post the thread link! And, I believe its yours, Dabber! ;)

I was born in Dallas, grew up there and lived there married for over 7 years. Dallas is a great city with friendly people but not that many landmarks to see for a tourist. We always had trouble finding things to show visitors.
You will now get a few posts that violently disagree with me. Pick the ones you like. Prepare for heat in the summer months. |

Great thread - once I learnt how to "drive it" - thank you for helping me. Ian

One other question - please excuse the Aussie ignorance - but is the JFK museum mentioned in the thread the same as the Presidential Library?
|
No, the JFK museum is focused on the assassination of John Kennedy in the early 1960s. The presidential library reference is probably about the future document depository of president George W Bush. The library is planned for Southern Methodist University north of downtown Dallas, and will not be built for several more years.
If your interest is in visiting new cities and wandering around, you will enjoy the Dallas-Ft Worth area. Many of its interesting attractions and neighborhoods are accessible by streetcar, rail and bus, or are reachable on foot in the downtown area. The Dallas metro area is very populous, over 6 million people, and has a large foreign population. And yes, the enormous post originally started by Dabber contains many good suggestions. |
