Stop off points on Route 91 thru CT, MA & VT

I posted this on the Canada board, but was hoping for some responses here as well.

We will be driving round trip from the NYC area to Quebec and decided to take the suggestions from the Fodor's Canada board to travel via 91 through CT, MA & VT. We will probably stop overnight in the Hanover/Lebanon/White River Junction vicinity.

Any suggestions for stopping points for lunch, dinner, or something special to see along that route (esp. in VT?)

Judy,
Right at that exit of 91 (Norwich) there is a great King Arthur Baking Store if you're interested in baking at all. They have ingredients that you might not be able to get other places except their catalogue.

I'm sure you know Dartmouth is in Hanover if you like to walk around college campuses.

There are many great restuarants in Northampton, MA -- asian, indian, steak & seafood, you name it.

Second Northampton for lunch. Old Deerfield village is nice and right off the highway. You can even just drive through it if you're not ready to stop again, since it is just north of Northampton.

I also recommend Northampton for lunch/dinner & browsing if you have the time. If you like Indian food, there is a great Indian restaurant on State St. (think it is called the India House), or Northampton Brewery, Eastside Grill or Union Station.

Without a map in front of me, I'm not sure if Ben & Jerry's in Vermont is on the way to Quebec City. We stopped there last year for a tour & lunch on the way to Montreal. Also in Vermont, there is Queechee Gorge & Woodstock.

HOpe this helps.

As others have said, Northampton is a neat place to stop for lunch, although it's a bit off I-91. Brattlebro Vt. has a funky bohemian feel to it, and some intereting places to eat. Hanover NH is also scenic and fun, with several good places to eat (Molly's has some good pizza and pub food and an outdoor patio). Right down the road in Lebanon, is possibly the best Italian place in New Hampshire, Three Tomatoes. Further up 91, there isn't too much other than Coalatina Exit in Bradford Vt, which is another good Italian place. Once you get into Vermont, I-91 gets very scenic.

If it's time to eat and your near Wells River, VT (about 40ish minutes north of White River), be sure to stop at the P&H Truck Stop!

Waterbury where Ben and Jerry's is located is not close to I 91, rather it is just off I 89. If you choose that route, it would be a great visit.

Thanks for all the great replies.

Looks like Northampton wins by concensus! Looking forward to checking it out.
