Stonewall Resort, WV? or other ideas?

My husband and I are looking into a possible long weekend getaway, driving from NE Ohio in September. Does anyone have any feedback on the Stonewall Resort in Roanoke WV? or recommendations for another place to stay? We've stayed at the Oglebay cabins, so would like someplace different than that, and I don't think we want to splurge on the Greenbriar. Thanks!

Look at Berkeley Springs, WV. It is a spa town that is low key yet full of good spas and restaurants. Stay at the Highlawn Inn in the Bathkeepers Quarters. Very romantic. Walk down the street into town and to the main town spa. Quirky, historic, fun. We didn't want to splurge on the Greenbriar either so we chose Berkeley Springs instead and had a great weekend.

mariasch,
This looks interesting. I am a little confused after looking at the website. If just 2 of us are staying in the Bathkeepers Quarters, does that mean that you have the entire unit for yourself? Also, is there a porch on the Bathkeepers Quarters, or is what they appear to be showing, a view of the Inn's main porch?
Thanks for the info.

We spent three nights at Stonewall and found it to be lovely, BUT -- the food is pricey and not exceptional. Example: The entrees on the $24.99 evening buffet were: (1) salmon, (2) VERY tough carved slices of beef, (3) chicken pasta. The only green vegetable was chilled green beans in the salad area. Breakfast was good, however. I'll bet it will be beautiful there in the fall.

It's too bad there aren't any nice restaurants close by, so you can leave the park and dine. Actually, there probably are in Clarksburg....but we didn't check.

Please be aware that there is a WV state park called Cacapon that is near Berkeley Springs. WV has many state parks such as Canaan Valley & Blackwater Falls that are equally beautiful.

Hi, Syd, Yes, you get the entire house when renting the Bathkeepers Quarters (amazing) and the front porch in the picture is the Bathkeepers front porch. The house is around the corner from the main inn (where you are served breakfast) and "town" is at the bottom of the hill (2 blocks).

Wow, the Bathkeepers Quarters is sounding very nice.

More on Stonewall, we would probably consider staying in one of the lakeside cottages. Has anyone stayed in one of these? While they do not look very private on the website, they do look nice.
