Stone Crabs

Does anyone know the best restaurant to get stone crabs between Miami and Key West?

gc Jun 23rd, 2002 06:30 PM

The "standard" is Joe's Stonecrab in S. Miami. Big, busy, expensive, great bar. Joe's owns there own stone crab farms, so they can serve the little critters out of season.

Like Anthony's Pier 4 in Boston, it's a place you gotta go to just so you can say you've been there.

I'm from the Tampa Bay area, so can't answer your restaurant question, but FYI stone crabs are out of season. They are available Oct 15th thru May 15th.

Joes does not have claws out of season. They only serve them during season.

If you find claws this time of year anywhere they were frozen.

The Fish House in Key Largo.

Here's another vote for Joe's Stone Crab. Quite an amazing place and one who's reputation is well deserved. Great atmosphere, great service and great food--make sure to try their wonderful Manhattan-style clam chowder...simply the best I've ever had.

Oh, and x is right: they don't serve their crabs out of season.

David

PS Bring lots of $$$$ if you go there!

Joe's is closed for the summer and won't even reopen until October

They close during the off season for Stone Crab.
