Stone crab season in south Florida

Family will be in Miami & FLL pre & post cruise. Would love to get stone crab in either place. Is late March/early April still "in season" for stone crabs?

Thanks.
Any recommendations as to restaurants in Miami or FLL that have the best stone crab?

The big one is still the best in my opinion....Joe's Stone Crab....but the whole wait, cost etc can get old. Monty's isn;t too bad, and many restaurants will offer them....but there's still something about Joe's that can't be duplicated.

If you by chance ever get down to Key West during crab season, Monty's has a happy hour every M-F where the shellfish is on special in the afternoon....2 claws for $5...a nice start to a Duval Crawl...

FYI, Catfish Dewey's on Andrews, has all you can eat stone crabs right now. It does not say how much, but we will be going soon and will let you know. Catfish Deweys is a down home seafood place, with good, basic. very fresh seafood IMO.

Joe's is a Miami staple. They are the "original" stone crab place. If you go for lunch there isn't much of a wait. The Stone crabs are kind of expensive, but in my opinion well worth it. They have different sizes to suit your needs, come cracked, and they have an amazing dipping sauce. My recommnedation is that you get a couple of medium size orders for the table and several side dishes. Everything is ala carte here, and comes in family style portions. The side dishes are big. My husband and I always get one crab order and also the fried chicken. Their fried chicken is delicious and really inexpensive. Like $7 or something. The locals all know about the great fried chicken. It was also something Clinton always asked for when he went. We always get an order of crab, fried chicken, their hashbrowns (to die for), and fried green tomatoes. It's plenty of food, and we always end up with left overs.
