Stinson Beach and Point Reyes while in San Francisco?

I posted this inside my other thread, but I thought it'd be better to pull it out to its own topic...

We've done the coast from Bandon, Oregon to Santa Rosa, CA, and also from Monterey down past Santa Barbara on 2 previous trips, so my question is...

Should we take the time to see Stinson Beach area and Point Reyes while we're in San Francisco? Or is it just more of the same?

When we leave San Francisco Sunday morning to head to Monterey, we plan on taking the coast highway, so we'll pick up that area.

I'll reply here too:

Stinson Beach & Pt Reyes deserve a considerable amount of time - especially Pt Reyes. It also takes some doing to get there. I would save it for another trip, if you're also going to Monterey & driving along the coast to get there. You'll only be in SF for 1 1/2 days - and part of that time you plan to visit Muir Woods. Visit parts of San Francisco you have not visited before, instead of continuing on to Pt Reyes & Stinson Beach from Muir Woods.

Yes, Sir! Whatever you say, SIR! :) I agree, and needed someone to confirm that for me.

Okay, so what about Muir Woods? We've been to Sequoia NP and Redwood NP. Does Muir Woods warrant a visit?

How many days have you spent sightseeing in San Francisco??? Muir Woods is nice, but since you're staying in San Bruno - getting there will consume a high percent of the 1 1/2 days you'll be in the region.

Have you visited Crissy Field & Ft Point? Have you walked along the Calif Coastal Trail near Land's End from Seacliff to the Cliff House. How about the Golden Gate Natl Rec Area (GGNRA) at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge - with the killer views of the City? Have you visted the WWII batteries, the Pt Bonita Lighthouse, and Marine Mammal area at the Marin Headlands just a little past the lookout mentioned in the last sentence. How about the Ferry Bldg & farmer's market mentioned in your other thread. Have you taken any SF City Guides Walks - Victorian Houses, Palace Hotel, Cityscapes & Public Places, Castro, Haight Ashbury, Bawdy & Naughty, Nob Hill, North Beach, Chinatown, etc. Have you explored the Noe Valley, Cow Hollow, Marina, Pacific Heights/Fillmore St, Haight? How about a bike ride to Ft Point & along Crissy field? Cable car museum.

~No, never heard of it.

How about the Golden Gate Natl Rec Area (GGNRA) at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge - with the killer views of the City?
~YES, thanks to you!

Have you visted the WWII batteries, the Pt Bonita Lighthouse,
~YES

and Marine Mammal area at the Marin Headlands just a little past the lookout mentioned in the last sentence.
~Nope, darn, wish we would have know about that last year.

How about the Ferry Bldg & farmer's market mentioned in your other thread.
~No, but plan to now!

Have you taken any SF City Guides Walks - Victorian Houses, Palace Hotel, Cityscapes & Public Places, Castro, Haight Ashbury, Bawdy & Naughty, Nob Hill, North Beach, Chinatown, etc.
~No, but planning on at least hitting North Beach and Chinatown this time around

Have you explored the Noe Valley, Cow Hollow, Marina, Pacific Heights/Fillmore St, Haight?
~No, never head of them, other than Haight!

How about a bike ride to Ft Point & along Crissy field?
~oh, the kids would love this! but they're not coming on this trip, and I haven't biked since 7th grade. :)

Cable car museum.
~No, haven't done this either!

(all me now!)...
On our past 2 trips to the coast, we've spent a half day each time in San Francisco. We've done Marin Headlands (thanks to you), Sausilito (both times), zigzag Lombard St (both times), a bit of Fisherman's Wharf (both times). So as you can see, we're ready to see something new! And your points are well taken! There's SOOO much to do! I just printed out your 22 pages of "Attractions" from the link you sent and am going to comb through it.

So you're saying to stay in the city and not worry about venturing up to Muir Woods, right?

We don't have to stay in San Bruno, but it just seems easier than the daunting task of trying to find a nice, affordable (comfort suites is only $79, free parking) hotel in the city. (and we've stayed there both times before flying out of SFO, so we know it... We must be creatures of habit and take the "easy" way out too often, you think?!)
