Stephanie Inn & Cannon Beach

Planning one night in Cannon Beach. Have read many great reviews for the Stephanie Inn, both here & in books. However, wondering if this only applies to *oceanfront* rooms? Anybody ever stayed in a non-view room there? There's such a *huge* price difference ($75!), not sure whether it's worth it to pay for the view, if there's nice views to be had from public areas at the Inn, too. And, since we're only there one night...
Any other strong inn recommendations you might make for Cannon Beach...or is this truly "the place?" We're on a 10th Anniverary trip. Thanks!

Cannon Beach is a delightful town, especially in the off-season. (It can get a little crowded in high summer, but is still loads of fun.)

My husband and I went to Stephanie Inn for our 20th anniversary, and stayed in an oceanfront room. There ARE nice views from the public area, so I wouldn't say oceanfront is a necessity.

That being said, Stephanie Inn, while very nice, didn't strike us as worth the very high price. It's a little "cutesy" for our tastes, heavy on the dried flowers and teddy bears, but that's just us; lots of people love it.

We prefer Salishan (no ocean view but fabulous, romantic rooms and great food) or Inn at Spanish Head in Lincoln City. Inn at Spanish Head has the most spectacular ocean-view rooms I have ever seen -- take a look at their website: http://www.spanishhead.com/

Have a lovely time, whatever you decide!

The reason I go to the beach is to be on it and/or see it. IMO, an ocean view is especially important in Oregon, where, because of the weather, you may be spending lots of time in your room. I know the Stephanie's website touts a nice coastal range view from the non-ocean view rooms, but before the coast range, there are parking lots and other stuff. If you're in one of those rooms and a storm blows in, go down to the library, the only "public area" with a nice ocean view.

I do like the Stephanie, but if you can't swing an ocean view, check out the Hallmark Inn. It's on a cliff overlooking the beach. And regardless of where you stay in Cannon, have your anniversary dinner at the Stephanie.

Thanks to both of you, for the feedback & ideas.:-) Will check out those recommendations, & will reconsider whether to splurge big-time, or not. Keep thinking, if it's only for one night & we're sightseeing too...probably best to spare the money, as we won't be in the room much. ('Course that could also mean, don't even begin to stay at places like this...but for an Anniversary trip, it seems tempting.) We'll be coming from the 3 Capes area...near Tillamook, so that's why we're only staying one night, as it's not too far a drive from that region. (and, we have to keep moving on, as we're heading up to the San Juans). Appreciate your help!!

Oh, R, I misunderstood, when I posted about the two alternative "luxury" romantic getaways, which are in Lincoln City.

If you are there primarily to see Cannon Beach, I would go with Beachbum's recommendation of Hallmark or one of the other nice hotels in town. Stephanie's an awful lot of money for what it is. Dinner there's a good idea!

Wishing you a great trip!

Thanks, again! :-) There are just so many recommendations in books, etc, for The Stephanie, that you can see why it's intriguing. Perhaps I could book the least expensive & hope for a possible upgrade, due to our Anniversary? Would be nice, but not likely, I'm sure! ;-) Appreciate you taking the time to lend your wisdom, Rosemary

If you want the view of the Stephanie Inn but not the high prices stay next door (well about that....on the other side of the public access parking lot) at the Tolvanna Inn. The view is almost exactly the same and the TI oceanfront studios are big and the beach view is great.

As for what someone said about the Inn at Spanish Head I disagree. I can name a dozen better places to stay in Lincoln City if you really want to stay in LC (but really the main draw to LC is the fact the motels are cheaper as there are so many...unless you like casinos which LC has one)

Thanks again for your assistance! :-)
Will look into this other place close-by. One of our potential dates, the Stephanie is all booked, anyway. The other...you heard our concerns. Will also read about the Surfsand & Hallmark, which get a lot of mentions here & in books. Many thanks!

We have stayed at the Surfsand and it was wonderful! It was on a whim and we had no idea what to expect and we were very pleased.

We stayed at Surfsand oceanfront with fireplace. It was great. Great view of Haystack.

Surfsand and Stephanie have the same ownership. Surfsand is geared more towards families, while Stephanie is definitely more couples oriented. I've stayed at both, and am not sure that for an ocean view room, you'll find much of a price difference.

There's a place on the corner of the main drag and the street to the Surfsand. It's got a good restaurant on the ground floor, and looks like B&B sort of accommodations above. I've always thought it looked like a neat place to stay. Anyone know the name?

I've stayed at most of the hotels in Cannon Beach and while I like the Stephanie, I now only stay at the Hallmark - it has a prime view right in front of Haystack Rock.

My wife and I just got back from a little Pacific NW vacation. We stayed in an oceanfront room at the Stephanie Inn and I thought it was wonderful. I *will* qualify that by saying that I highly recommend this hotel if price is no object, because their prices are a bit outrageous. But it is a very nice place. And you *definitely* want the ocean view room.
