Steak in Phoenix

I'm looking for a really good steak in Phoenix. It doesn't have to be a fancy steak house although those can be good also and I don't automatically rule them out. I'd love to find a place that puts their money into the meat instead of the red velvet seats.

Thanks

Durant's on Central Avenue, between McDowell Road and Thomas Road......it's been here 60 years and the movers and shakers have always gone there...ask for the south room, booth five when you make reservations. Of course, you always have Ruth's Chris Steak House, but I go for non-chain restaurants.

I don't know if it is still operating, but a few years ago I had a great steak at a resturant named the Stockyard's, or something very similar.

A Google search indicates Stockyard's still exists, but it might be worth checking out before you commit to eating there. It's near the airport.

I've seen info on both Monti's and Flemings. Some say you don't go to Monti's for the steaks but because it's MONTI'S. I've also been told that Flemings embodies all that is good in a chain, mainly consistency.

Any reaction to these two choices?

Thanks

I have been to Monti's and it was VERY GOOD!!!! YUM!! It is in Tempe. It isn't fancy, the restaurant is HUGE! Kind of a neat place too, lots of history.

The Stockyards is very good, but is currently in midst of a huge renovation...I personally do not like Monti's, to me, very ordinary, both in food and atmosphere, although it is an historic building.

Roaring Fork in Scottsdale had an incredible beef tenderloin steak on their varied, extensive southwestern-style menu. They did great things with meats - lamb, short ribs, pork shoulder . . . we thought the food was terrific.

Drinkwaters in Scottsdale is suppose to be the place. Roaring Fork is also good. Drinkwaters is priced like the fancy chains but is locally owned (as is Flemings). If you are looking for PRIME...I dont know if Durants is the place.

A followup (and thank you for all the responses) - We just got back from a very nice weekend visiting our son in Phoenix and he chose to go to Flemings (Chandler location).

It was a very nice meal; nice atmosphere (slightly noisy at times), excellent and personable service, and very good steaks and lamb. I will certainly be going back. A steakhouse experience at just slightly under the most expensive steakhouse's prices.
