Steak dinner in Las Vegas
 

My husband and I will be in Las Vegas one night in mid May. It is also my birthday. We both love a good steak. Are there any great steak places you would suggest for dinner? We are staying at Treasure island. I would like a nice place and not the $4.99 buffets. Thanks.

A simple google search of "Best steakhouses in Las Vegas" will bring up scores of links with literally hundreds of reviews for each place on virtually everyone's "top 10" list.

The Charcoal Room at Palace Station is a hidden gem and a short drive off-strip. If you want something walking distance from your hotel, the steakhouse at the Wynn hotel is excellent but $$$$. Canaletto in the Venetian hotel across from Treasure Island is an Italian restaurant with a nice setting overlooking the "Venice canals". They have a varied menu including steaks.

You might also post this query on Chowhound; the LV regulars can point you in the direction of the area's better steak houses that aren't ridiculously overpriced (as most of the Strip joints are). You will probably end up off-Strip or Downtown, but that's where the deals are.

Having said that, I will say that the highly-regarded Mon Ami Gabi in Paris offers several flavors of steak frites (it says "qualité supérieure" on the menu, so they have to be good!! ;) ) at reasonable prices. If you have to stay on-Strip, I'd say that would be a safe bet, even though it's not technically a "steak joint".

The meat parade at Samba, in the Mirage, would satisfy the most ravenous carnivore. It's Brazilian rodízio-- grilled meats on skewers served practically non-stop (you turn a wooden stick green point up to start the Cavalcade of Protein, red point up to signal "please, stop, I'm going to explode") along with Brazilian sides (feijão, plantains etc.)-- and a few à la carte items (steaks, filé de salmão, chicken etc.). However, it's at a higher price point than MAG.

Oh, and clark's suggestions are all very good as well.

The only steak place I've been to in Vegas is Flemings in Town Centre on the South Strip. It was very, very good. If you go, the Flemings potatoes are outstanding.

Those "meat parades" can be a great deal in LV or elsewhere. Even though I absolutely love Ruth's for the service as well as the meat the "Brazilian" places we have here in South Florida are great, too.

If it were me and in LV I would definitely consider eating in the Venetian where we have had some wonderful meals in the past.

Yes, "meat parades" or Brazilian rodizio will satisfy those who long for quantity, but I've been to a number of them and have yet to find one that serves truly great "dry aged prime" or otherwise great steaks!

I'm thinking the famous old place downtown (in the Gold Nugget?) called Binions is gone? It was like a fine old steakhouse from the 1950's or 60's -- probably because it was!

My son I enjoyed the ribeye at Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak Restaurant at The MGM.
Very nice atmosphere with amazing service. We enjoyed some appetizers, salad and shared the steak.

Just a heads up. We stayed at Treasure Island recently and I was disappointed that they had no in-room coffee. A pot sent to your room will be $20.00 but as far as I was concerned, it was worth it.

CD I am a starbucks woman and I will not be drinking coffee in my room so that is not a deal breaker for me. Now tell me they don't have s Starbucks close by and I am outta there. LOL.

Thanks all. I did eat once downtown in lss Vegas a very old like dark leather, chairs, bulky furniture, dark inside, steak restaurant but I cannot remember the name, it was ok. I think I might opt for the Venetian although probably very pricy. Thanks.

Yes, CUT is pricey. But very worth it. Almost all the really good places in Vegas are pricey now. It isn't like it used to be there.

diann, yes they do have a Starbucks close by. :-)

There are so many steakhouses to choose from in Las Vegas. Do a search and read the reviews and see which sounds like your style. Every major hotel has one or more high end steakhouses.

Here is just one recent article with short descriptions and photos of what they are saying are the top 10 steakhouses in Las Vegas. Don't know if you can really determine what are the top ten but this would be a good start for you.

So where did you end up going Diann24? I thought I'd put my recent experience so anyone reading this in the future can take my comments into consideration.

My husband and I went to SW Steakhouse at The Wynn. We sat on the patio to see the light show. My husband and I like to have fabulous meals wherever we go. We had high hopes for SW Steakhouse but unfortunately we were disappointed.

We started with the sauteed Foie Gras which was very good. For our main course we shared the Chateaubriand which was ok but not worth the $120 price tag. I must say that the sauce that came with it was very good and I don't usually like sauce on a good piece of meat. The meat was pepper crusted and was a little too peppery for me. For sides we had the sauteed vegetables and black truffle creamed corn. The veggies were good but I expect excellent at a place of this caliber. The waiter recommended the creamed corn and we were disappointed with that side dish. We had the Black Chicken Zinfandel wine which was excellent but for $117 it should be. We were too full for dessert but looking at the menu, nothing really jumped out at me that would make me want to order dessert.

All in all it was an ok dinner but the bill was $364 (we had drinks beforehand with a friend too). We don't mind spending the money if we love the meal but the food wasn't worth the price so we will not be returning nor recommending this restaurant to anyone.

Also, the Lake of Dreams light show is a joke. Not worth spending time to view IMHO.

We stayed at the Wynn and we loved the hotel. We will just have to try a different restaurant if we return.

We actually just ate at Phil's in the Treasure Island hotel. We were up early and left for Bryce Canyon then ended up in Sedona. That is where we were actually staying just wanted to do an overnighter in LV. I loved Sedona. I would love to go back. Thanks for asking. Steak was ok. nice meal and not real expensive. I would go there again.
