Staying on Islamorada

I have been to Key West (which is a blast) and do not want to go there this trip. My wife will be 6months pregnant when we go to Islamorada, we are looking for a place in April; have read about Cheeca, Pelican cove, and Holiday isle, and Ragged edge. we are 32 yr old but as you can imagine not really into partying at this point. we want a quiet spot, pool, small beach if available, and do not want to spend the price for Cheeca. Is it better to stay on the florida bay side or atlantic side. Pelican is on the bay, ragged is on the ocean. We will also need a kitchen or fridge to hold some food for the wifey to eat healthy. any advice please would be appreciated. the reason I mention not wanting to go to Key west is because everyone always recommends it as I usually do; just not a good time for us now. Islamorada is only a 5-6 hour drive from St Pete where we live vs Key west 8 hours.

have you considered Hawk's Cay Resort? they have their own key off of Marathon. it's a little farther south than Islamorada. I normally don't recommend Marathon, but since you're not looking for the nightlife of Key West and seem to want something slowerpaced in general, I think Hawk's Cay is it. It's on the Atlantic side and they do have a beach (and two pools, one for adults). they have some rooms with kitchens. It's very relaxing there.

Kirk, thanks for the input; I will check it out on the internet.

Rick-I have heard mixed reviews on Hawks Cay. In Islamorada, I would avoid Holiday Isle, it is party central, Pelican Cove is right next door. I have heard the Moorings is a nice place.

Plantation Yacht Harbor maybe? I have never stayed there but have been to the marina a few times, looks ok. I think they have a web site. The Chesapeake also gets some decent reviews.

We stayed at Chesapeake Resort in Islamorada in December and LOVED it. It's quiet, has a big beach and lagoon, and is incredibly beautiful. At night my husband and I would also wander out past the lagoon and relax oceanfront in their hammocks....very romantic and fairly secluded! Most rooms are oceanfront with great view. 2 of the villas (really little cottages) are also oceanfront. If interested in more info on room locations/amenities, feel free to email me as I took notes when we were down there.

The Moorings is the place I would suggest. Kind of Romantic!
