Staying in the Keys around New years

My husband and I are planning to be in the key west from the 29th dec to 1st jan. Accomodations are all very expensive in key west this time of the year. We guys were thinking of staying in Marathon and driving everyday to key west. I wanted your opinion on this idea. And any decent places to stay in Marathon. Thxs.

Do you realize you will be driving about 1 hour each way? Try to stay closer to the lower keys and key west.

Bad Idea... if you try a little harder on line, you should be able to pick up a reasonable accomodation or cancellation... or...stay in Ft. Myers and take the Key West Express boat out to KW for the day... you will save enough money and get a decent taste of KW...

Marathon will be more than an hour drive each way that weekend.

Check with the Southernmost Hotel or any one of their four hotels.

Also, the El Patio seems reasonable.

Don't try and stay in Marathon to hang out in Key West.

BTW, there are hotels that are much closer to Key West than Marathon.
