Staying in South Beach

Hi,
My fiance and I are planning to stay one night in South Beach. While researching on the web, I see several hotels on Ocean Drive and Collins Drive.
Any recommendations on where to stay (not too expensive places). Also any clubs to suggest where one can walk from the Hotel. We will be there only one Sat night so would like to make the most of it.

Thanks in advance
laure

My advice is to stay away from hotels on the south end of Ocean Drive (anything below 12th street). The sidewalks are jammed with people partying till dawn.
My choice for a moderate hotel would be the Winterhaven on 14th & Ocean Drive. Its right across from the beach and you can walk everywhere.

I don't agree. If you are only there for one night, you want to stay in the middle of the 'action'. Stay between 5th and 12th on Ocean Avenue. The Avalon and the Majestic are clean and nice and reasonably priced. You can walk to Wet Willies, News Cafe, & the Clevelander (for drinks). All clubs are on Washington Ave between 5th and 12th .

Whatever you do, don't stay at the Marseilles Deco Beach Hotel on Collins. It's awful.

I'm with Sharon. We stayed up near Collins and 17th this summer and it was a bit too far from the action. Plus the entire street was torn up north of about 15th street. Somewhere near 8th or 10th would be perfect.

Thanks everybody for their recomendations.

While reading the postings here for some affordable hotel on South Beach I came accross South Seas and Edison Hotel

Any comments on either of these or any other recommendations.

Also how far the nightclubs from these places and can one walk late night too?

Thanks again
Lauren
Lauren, we stayed at the South Seas this summer. It's up near 17th street, so it's a decent walk to the action. the hotel was great - good room, nice pool and surprisingly good (and underused) cafe. parking was a mess due to the construction. For just one night, I'd opt to stay closer in. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any comments on the Edison (960 Ocean Dr) or Blue Moon Hotel (944 Collins)?

Any other hotel you may want to suggest are always welcome?

Thanks
Lauren
