staying in or outside yosemite park

I'am travelling to yosemite in April for 2 nights staying outside the park at yosemite view lodge, is this a good choice or should I be staying inside the park, i'd appreciate any info. Thanks.

At this late date, it may only be an academic discussion, since you may not be able get a room reservation in the park.
If you can get a room at the Yosemite Lodge, take it. Otherwise, the Yosemite View Lodge puts you about as close as you can get to Yosemite Valley. It's actually closer than a of the facilities within the park.

The first time we went we couldn't get inside the park and stayed at FishCamp just outside. We had reservations to have dinner one night at the Ahwanee which we cancelled. There was no way we'd drive that road all the way back out after drinks and dinner!!! The next time we stayed in the park (at the Ahwanee) and it was so much better to be right there -- not fighting the crowds and lines all the way in and out each day, and having a close place to return for a while in the middle of the day. Also it meant we could go to evening programs, something we wouldn't do if we had to drive back out afterwards at night.

Actually I'd think if your stay in April is midweek rather than weekend, you still might be able to get a reservation in the park!! I'd sure try if I were you.

We stayed in Yosemite View Lodge in May 2001 and really liked it. We had a huge river view room with small kitchenette and a huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and tv for about $159/night. The river was really flowing and it was fun to watch the kayakers. Our last morning the area was covered with butterflies. The restaurant there was also pretty good. It was about 15 minutes drive to the valley floor during the week (no traffic). On saturday it was a little longer due to some traffic, but still not bad.

Hi Suzy, I am deciding about going to Yomesite in May. I went to their website and saw the choices of hotels.
Do you or any of ya'll know the price range of them?
I am going to call and ask them to mail me a brochure.
Do you know if my best bet is to Fly into SF and drive down? I would be coming from Florida-Cant decide what I want to do in the spring and I have never been to Yomesite.
Any input from you all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
