Staying in Maui in December
My wife and I are going to Maui in December for our 10th. We are deciding between the Embassy Vacation Resort and the Renaissance Wailea. I havn't really decided what types of things we want to do on the island yet, but we did spend a lot of time on our honeymoon in St. Thomas snorkling. I have read a lot of the posts but don't really see any comparison of the two.

Thanks for any input.

Danny

The biggest item to research is Wailea verses kaanapali. Lots of Fodors post that you can review. Kaanapali has more shops and things to do, we prefer Wailea for the quiet beauty. I would vote for the Ren.

If the Choice is between the Embassy and the Renaissance, go with the Renaissance.

However, if you do stay in the Kaanapali area instead of Wailea, don't stay at the Embassy Vacation Resort. It is a nice property but it is not in a very nice area and it does not have very good beachfront. Stay right on Kaanapali Beach. The Embassy is about three miles north of Kaanapali Beach.

I agree with the previous post that you should first decide what area you want to be in (Kaanapali or Wailea) and THEN decide what property you want to stay at.

The Renaissance. by a long shot! The Embassy location cannot compare with the Wailea Resort area!

I just got back from the Renaissance. We drove over to the other parts of the island but found Wailea to be much better. People say it is very quiet, but that really isn't so much the case. There are a number of resorts with bars and restaurants in them, and it is a very short drive to Kihei which also has a ton of places to eat. There also are the shops at Wailea for dining and shopping. I also think that the beaches there are much nicer and easier to walk and drive to.

The Wailea area is getting better all the time. I am a devoted Kaanapali fan as for a long time Wailea was too quiet for me. But that is changing and I now consider Wailea to be an alternative to Kaanapali. But the Embassy is not even on my list.
