Staying in Maui for 10 days
My fiance and I are going to Maui for 10 days on our honeymoon in august. We are staying in the Kea Lani, and were just wondering how long of a drive it is to other spots on the island, such as Lahaina, and Kanaapali etc. We have a rental car so driving is no problem. We are looking forward to relaxing on the beach, however will be doing some of the touristy things such as a helicopter ride etc. We would like to have a mix of things, such as nightlife, as well as scenery. Any suggestions? Also - what are your opinions regarding the Kea Lani?

while maui is nice, don't waste a trip to hawaii by staying on one island for ten days, we did 5 in maui 5 on the big island.
and btw, if you are expecting maui to be some island paradise, think again. its a very built up resort island.
Good choice. For your honeymoon and 1st trip to Hawaii, Maui has a bit of everything. Yes it's built up but it also has some beautiful scenery. It's about 30-45 minutes to Lahaina and Kaanapali from KL. Depends on time of day. Just alternate between relaxing and touring and 10 days will fly by.
Do the trip to Haleakala, Hana, La Perrouse Bay, Trilogy trip to Lanai, eat at Joe's near the Wailea Tennis Center, Hailemaile Gen'l Store, Roy's, Sam Choys, Bubbba Gumps. Next trip split the trip to 2 islands. I'm sure you will return.
Bart
email me if you have specific questions.

Sheeesh. Ignore the pessimistic commentary from Edie, lrh. For a honeymoon and a first trip to Hawaii, Maui is a great choice. You'll have a wonderful time. The Kea Lani is in an area, it is true, with several nice resorts and plenty of activity, that is it's "built up". But that has no adverse effect whatsoever on my ability to forget about the rest of the world as I lay by the pool, in a hammock, or on the beach, typically very quiet with nothing but waves and a light breeze to break the silence.
There are certainly some that seek the seclusion of Fiji or Anguilla or similar to 'get away', but I suspect that most people who choose Maui know that it's not Gilligan's Island. (Nor would I want it to be).
I would agree with Edie's comment about visiting 2 islands. 10 days is plenty of time to fully enjoy 2 islands without feeling like you can't settle in. Kea Lani is great, BTW. Have stayed at 2 neighboring properties, and have seen the rooms there. A solid choice. Have fun!

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it to those who gave constructive advice. I probably should have mentioned that we will be flying from Maine, and it is a long trip to stay for a few days, and then hop on a plane again (no matter how long that trip may be. . . ) We also have both been to Hawaii before, I stayed on Oahu for 10 days, and made a day trip to Maui. We think if we are going to take any trips to other islands, we will not be doing it during our honeymoon. I don't mind the "built up aspect". In my opinion, being on the beach will be wonderful, but i definitely want to see other parts of the island. Thanks again, and we will be sure to check out the spots you suggest.
