Staying In Key West

has anyone been to Key West? If so where did you stay? I am trying to plan a trip to key west for my husband and I in April would like to stay in a B&B or a guest house, but I have been burnt once before about a B&B and it didn't turn out like I wanted to...Ambrosia is full, I already checked. Anyone heard of the Popular House?

My husband prefers hotels to B&Bs so I don't have any personal knowledge for you, but we spend a lot of time in Key West and the Heron House and Island City House have great reputations. I've been by the Curry Mansion Inn a number of times and it's in a good location and looks nice from the outside. On an earlier post someone mentioned having stayed at the Jasmine House and liking it a lot. The Popular House looks nice from the web site but I've never heard anything about it.

Your husband might like KW type guesthouses even if he doesn't care for B&B. I tend to feel as he does about B&B's but typically the guesthouses allow one to feel a certain degree of anonymity and that the sense that you can come and go 24 hours a day as you wish. Somehow in a B&B (in the few times "I've stayed in them)it felt more like being a guest in somone's house. I'm probably the poster who mentioned Jasmine house and it's really quite nice. The porchside room(s) are unbder $100 per night with private bath and although relatively small are tastefully furnished. they have a suite upstairs in the back that's about $150 per night - nice and bright and airy - very small BR but nice separate sitting area and kitchen. When I stayed there the owner was still living in the back area of the ground floor. It appears from looking at her website that she's now converted that area into the "honeymoon suite". It's really quite nice and opens onto a fenced in landscaped back patio with a sunken jacuzzi. Jasmine House is in a quiet but incredibly convenient location but it lacks a pool - an issue for some folks but not for others.

Do stay in Old Town.....We go every year and stay at Center Court.....Check it out on the web......centercourtkw.com/
also check out Chelsea House

Hi Jackie

Check out Duval Gardens Their right on Duval Street however, they are far enought down the street to cut down on the noise. We stayed there 3 years ago and had a very nice experience. Curry Mansion is also very nice, and walking distance to old town.

I would second the vote for Heron House - stayed there in October and found it lovely. I don't usually like the B&B experience, but this is more of a small hotel than a B&B in the best sense of the word. Enjoy the sunsets! Anne

Have stayed at Island City House four times. Wonderful location, beautiful gardens. Stayed for honeymoon & second honeymoon. Need I say more?
Beware of Simonton Court.
Banyan is nice too. Near Kelly's, but more $$$.

You Florida travel agt. trolls should be ashamed of yourselves.

Florida should have it's own board. I'm tired of looking at all of these Fla. travel agent trolls.

(Sound familiar?)

I'm going to Key West in the spring - have reservations for Papa's Hideaway. Does anyone know anything about it? It is small (only 5 rooms), on Louisa Street. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

just returned from KW and enjoyed our stay at Hampton Inn. Used the shuttle to go to old town. $5 per person per day and you could get off and on all day. Enjoyed the rides. Hotel had continental breakfast and nice bayfront bar, pool and sitting areas. Very clean and courteous staff.

Hi Jackie,

I highly recommend a fabulous Victorian B & B called The Artist House. About a year ago my husband and I spent our Anniversary in Key West and we stayed at the Hyatt. I am very picky when it comes to places that I stay and I was extremely disappointed in this hotel. I found our room to be dirty and run down. If I had to do over again I would have chosen the Hilton if we wanted to stay in a large hotel type place or better yet, I wish I had stayed either The Artist House or The Marquesa. Maybe next time.

Good luck!

The Marquesa is our favorite B&B in Key west. It also has one of the best restaurants on Key west. My family has been going to key west for the last 10 years. They have a wonderful pool and great rooms. It's a little expensive but when we aren't renting a house, we stay there.

My vote is for the Heron House. Stayed there in March. Loved it! Very convenient to Duval Street.
