Staying in Hilton Head Island...need advice

We will be staying in Hilton Head Island from 5/31 thru 6/7. Our 6 yr old daughter will be with us. We will be taking day trips to Savannah & Beaufort. Can you recommend any other day trips for a family? Also, what are some good restaurants in those areas.
Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

Charleston Aquarium.

I live on HHI. My favorite restaurants in descending order:

Riviera Oaks, on New Orleans Road
Mulberry Street Tratoria, going off island, its the first left after the Moss Creek light
Il Carpaccio, at Pineland Station
La Famiglia, near Palmetto Dunes
And for Friday evening mayhem: Wise Guys Lounge, Main Street Center.

Also, while its an hour further, Charleston, IMO, is vastly superior to Savannah or Beaufort. There are lots of threads about Charleston.

Seems like two day trips will be enough. You will want to have some time to enjoy the beach and riding bikes around the island. We always rent bikes for the week we are there and that is our favorite activity.

We enjoyed taking the Old Town Trolley tour in Savannah-it gives you a good overview of the city and you can hop on and off at the stops you want to see.

In Hilton Head we enjoy these restaurants: Sea Shack, Catch 22, Old Oyster Factory.

Hope you have a great time. We can't wait to go back to HH in November.

I second nlg's recommendation about bike and beach time. Your daughter would also enjoy Greg Russell's nightly concerts at Harbor Town. It's an hour show for youngsters that our daughters loved. Harbor Town has several restaurant options that are convenient to the show including CQ's, Crazy Crab, and Quarterdeck.

Consider taking a nature cruise. You always see dolphin, sometimes manatees, gators.

They rent two person kayaks so that your daughter can just ride along. They also organize group kayaking with a guide.

South Beach Marina is a fun place in the evening. Salty Dog Cafe is a casual waterside restaurant. Always live music. Ice cream shop. A good vacation evening.

We like Truffles, Just Pasta, Sunset Grille, and Captain Woody's to name a few more restaurants.

We spend a week annually on HHI and never take day trips - unless you count the short trips just off island to the outlet centers. We always find plenty to do on island. Not that you shouldn't take day trips - but if you take more than 2, you'll end up spending little time on Hilton Head itself. And Charleston (to me) is a long drive for a day trip.

The week will go faster than you think. Unless you have a week like we did last week with the most godawful weather I've ever seen on HHI in May (or any other month for that matter). Highs in the 60s with constant rain and 30 mph winds. We left 2 days early.

While I would question whether some of the restaurant recs above are the best choices for a 6 year old, I agree with Catch 22, The Sea Shack and Just Pasta. Would also add Marley's - fun, festive atmosphere, good food and an attached ice cream shop for desert.

Thank you all. My husband insists he wants to go to Charleston. DRJ, can you recommend some restaurants for lunch and dinner? Also, can anyone recommend some restaurants in Savannah for lunch & dinner?
