staying and geting around in San Antonio

My family and I Will be flying into San antonio mid July to attend dance competion at muncipal auditorim.
Did not want to stay too close as to avoid hotels over packed with pre teens.
would also like to see Riverwalk.
Instead I have booked us at Menger Hotel.
Was told trolly will take us back and forth.
Im trying to avoid renting a car.
Any comments? Thanks

Menger is walking distance to Riverwalk.
If you have free time rent the car. Checkout New Braunfels, Tx Schlitterbahn Waterpark (#1 in the U.S).
On the way is a drive thru animal safari park.

will probable only have time for riverfront activitys as will be back and fourth to auditorim as needed.
I figure to have 1 day to do this.
My concern is geting back and fourth to auditorum, prefer not to have car unless have to.
Thanks

Recently got back from a week's stay in san antonio for the NCAA final four. Transportation in the city is great! It's an easy city to walk, trolley is great, so are taxis (and bus system but more for locals). It is such a friendly city that if you walk around looking lost, people come up to you and offer directions. The first day there we probably walked over 15mi. checking everything out. I believe trolleys run every 15 min. If you rent a car, hotel may charge $20.+ a day for parking. Menger is a nice older hotel w/lots of history. Ask for the Sarah Bernhardt suite if available. Our team UCONN stayed at the Plaza, which I was told used to be a Four Seasons when it first opened. It has a relaxing courtyard with pool, massage hut, strolling peacocks, and waterfalls. The Weston is also a great hotel, as well as the La Mansoin Del Rio (where the CBS staff stayed as well as Oscar Robinson) You should have a great time! Also taxi from the airport to your hotel takes about 15-20 min, and should cost about $15. Check out the Tower of the Americas at night for the awesome 20+mi. view. $4.pp to go up to the viewing platform, but free if you go up to the lounge for a soda or drink, or restaurant. Incredible!!

Thanks for the tips.
Looks like a car will not be needed
