Stayed at hotel near the Tucson airport?

My sister and I need a decent place to stay near the airport before we head on to Canyon Ranch ; recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Mary

There is a Clarion and a Best Western ans soon as you leave the airport. Your best bet is not to stay at a hotel in this area. There are some hotel on Speedway that are pretty decent. I'm a native Tucsonan let me know if I can help.

If you are looking forward to the luxury of Canyon Ranch, anything around the Tucson airport is sure to be a big disappointment. I would probably recommend the Fairfield Inn @ I-10 and Irvington, just a few miles from the airport. I have stayed there and it fills the bill if you just need a basic but clean & comfortable room.

There is a strip of about 8 motels right outside the airport--you could walk, they're that close. I've stayed at the Clarion and the Fairfield, and found them basically acceptable--clean and quiet and safe. My unscientific impression is that they're all about the same in quality and price; none of them are fancy, but none are dives, either. I liked the Clarion best, because it was fully enclosed --I hate open-air walkways--and had a bar/restaurant that was serviceable. (There aren't any other restaurants at all within walking distance. It isn't a dangerous neighborhood, just a featureless one.)) So as long as you're not expecting anything special, I'd say go with the Clarion. (And enjoy Canyon Ranch!!)

Whoops, sorry--I've stayed at the Clarion and the Best Western, not the Fairfield!

I hate to correct someone, but the area around the airport isn't all that safe. If your going to stay there keep your eyes open. I love Tucson, lived here for over thirty years and I can pretty much tell you if your going to the Canyon Ranch, you won't like the area around the airport.

azgirl-is Canyon Ranch so far that they might simply consider continuing on-I would think there would be a 24hr desk.
I agree with you-things have changed in my hometown, but not by the airport!
If I stayed there-I think I might go in to the Holiday Inn (no open walkways) and stay there 'til dawn.
Happy Trails!

AZGrl--I so appreciate your honesty; the folks at Canyon Ranch just suggested the Embassy Suites.

thank you all!

The Doubletree is also decent, and no more than 10 minutes from the airport. It's near Reid Park and the zoo.

Good choice, I think you would be much happier. However, I agree with Razzledazzle Canyon Ranch really isn't that far. Maybe 45 minutes or so depending on Traffic.
