Stay in San Francisco
 

Flying into San Francisco early June for 4 nights.First timer.Dont want to drive.Can you suggest a convenient location to stay on budget hotels.Also quick access to public transport.What are the places that I could visit in this short time.

First, four nights (and four days?) is a nice amount of time for a visit to San Francisco. Do a search in the search box for the name "Stu Dudley", then search through his posts -- he has given fabulous "tour" advice to many a San Francisco visitor.

Second, please define "budget" hotels -- what's budget to you may be luxury to the next person, and vice versa. Especially since you want to use public transport, we need to focus on certain areas of the city.

My wife and son of 25 yrs will accompany.I am looking for a range of $80 to 100 per night

We had a girls weekend of 8 in October and stayed at the Hotel Beresford on Sutter.. Perfect for us..

the locations is great, the breakfast that is included was good, the internet was free, and the bar attached was like something out of old time England...
I think there was a review in Budget Travel a few months back..
We did have a room in the front, and it was noisy.. but, I always bring earplugs so if you can, get a room in the back.
If you decide to do Alcatraz, get your tickets on line...Have fun, San Fran is a great city !..and stay away from the " tenderloin" neighborhood..

We visited there in sept 07 and stayed at The Monticello Inn, 127 Ellis Street. we got it for $100.
hotel is right into downtown and very close to all public transport (few steps of walk) + very close to the point where all the activities are..lots of restaurant nearby + fastfood.
hotel has a 1 hr wine reception every day (though i missed it).
we booked 5 hr SF tour, I must say, it was very hectic, but for our timeframe, it was perfect visit of SF. btw, we flew into SF and took taxi from airport to hotel (~ $30-40). hope this helps.

Hi, SF is great. I'm within driving distance, so I can't help out much with transportation. I would not recommend renting a car though. Traffic is crazy, and if you're not accostomed to it it can stress you out to no end. As for hotels, I recommend hotels.com. I have used them numerous times in the past with great results. Just type in San Fransisco. A must visit for me is pier 39. It is always a lot of fun,has neat shops, and the local seal population has taken up permanant residence there. There is also Alcatraz prison or "the rock" that you can tour.SF also has a wealth of great art museums, wonderful restrants(I recommend the sea food), and a zoo. I love SF, and always enjoy a day or two there whenever I can get away.
