.Stay in Dallas or Ft. Worth? --Art museums main focus.

Flying into Dallas(Love Field) for specific purpose to see exhibit from Toronto at the Kimball in Ff. Worth. Also Modern Art museum in same area
Plan to stay near airport on day of arrival--long day for me.
Do not plan to rent car..Anyone know about transportation from airport to Kimball area? Or how to get info about this. It looks like it is easier(closer) to get to Dallas from airport & some Dallas hotels have shuttlesHowever, some motels near the Kimball are a lot cheaper.
Would like to avoid changing motels, however
Since I don’t know the areas...would it be best for me to stay in Dallas? As I plan to visit Dallas Museum of Art also. This Museum is 39 miles from the Kimball, have no idea about transportation between these...OR should I stay near the Kimball for 2 days and then move to Dallas. for 2 days?
A friend thinks I shoiuld stay in Dallas, as it has “more’ interesting stuff to see and do...however she is quite a “shopper” while I am not..
HELP....

You really need a car in order to see the things you want to; is there a reason you do not want to rent a car? Driving in the Dallas/Fort Worth area is easy, and saves you a lot of time & money over NOT having a car.

If for whatever reason you will not/cannot rent a car, try staying at a hotel in Dallas that's on the DART system (the light rail). Or a hotel along the McKinney Trolley route. http://www.mata.org/ The Trolley route ends very near the Dallas Museum of Art. Don't forget to visit the Nasher Sculpture Center next to DMA. The Trolley also allows you to visit shops & restaurants along the route. There are 2 DART stops that are w/i walking distance from the Trolley route. http://www.dart.org/

To get to FW, you can take the DART to Union Station, then transfer to the TRE over to Fort Worth. If you get off at the FW T&P station, you can transfer to Bus Rt no.7 which serves the Kimbell and the FW Modern.

Having said all this, to get to FW involves A LOT of planning and will take a lot of time. I don't even know if all of these train & bus schedules will work out or not.

Rent the car. Once you get to Fort Worth, the three museums (don't miss Amon Carter) are within easy walking distance of each other, but they are difficult, as you see above, to get to without an automobile. You could waste inordinate amounts of art/architecture time trying to get there by other means -- unless you can hire a car and driver.

You have a great treat in store, even if there were not a special exhibit impelling you. We are art/architecture buffs and found our visit to Fort Worth to be a real highlight of our experience. The Modern museum, by the way, has a very nice cafe/rstaurant for lunch, so you need not leave the area.

Would strongly suggest renting a car. Public transportation is not quite as efficient as in other large metro areas (it's a relatively new phenomenon for us in the DFW area).

Cab fare to FW will cost about $50, and probably similar to Dallas.

Since you're flying in Love Field, can you do the Dallas leg first, then head to FW for a couple of days?

However, I disagree with your friend who says Dallas has more interesting stuff to see and do -- but then that's the rivalry between Dallas and Fort Worth.

Unfortunately can not rent a car--increasing problems with distance vision ( not fixable with glasses) close vision is fine.
Great idea to go to Dallas first then on to Ft. Worth then home... It would be a stretch of my funds but could hire a car to get to Ft. Worth from Dallas.Sounds like Public transport would be a hassle....
Thanks for advise.

Then follow YK's links to the train schedules. Public transport is very do-able, we just tend to rely on our own vehicles. DART/TRE from Dallas to FW should be relatively easy. But end your ride to FW at the Intermodal Transportation Center rather than the T&P Station.

Molly the Trolley will get you in/around downtown Fort Worth for FREE, but not to the museum district. http://www.mollythetrolley.com/downtown_get_around.html

INstead of a taxi from the airport to your hotel, you might check out SuperShuttle. It is much cheaper than a taxi -- but you probably would be sharing with others, thereby having multiple stops before arriving at your hotel. On the website is a fare calculator, so if you know your hotel location, you can determine the approximate cost. Be sure to select Dallas LOVE FIELD and not DFW Airport.
