Statue of Liberty from Liberty State Park or Battery Park??

Hi Folks:

My family and I will be staying in Edison NJ in March and will be going to see the Statue of Liberty. I have the option of taking the SOL Ferry either from Liberty State Park in NJ or Battery Park. Which is the best choice? I will have a 6 year old and 12 year old with me. Thanks in advance!

I like the view heading to Battery Park because of not only the view of the Statue of Liberty, but of Brooklyn Bridge and the Financial District.

If you're coming from Edison, NJ it would be far easier and cheaper to take the ferry from Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ.

You can drive there with minimal NJ Turnpike tolls, park for free and take the ferry over.

If you go from Battery Park you'd have to drive past the Turnpike exit for Liberty State Park, sit in Holland Tunnel traffic, pay more in tolls, then have to figure out where to park your car near Battery Park (and maybe pay?) then take the ferry. Sounds like a lot more trouble to get to the same place IMO.

Unless you are planning to spend the day in the city for other reasons it's definitely better to go from Liberty State Park.

Thanks tpatricco...Was actually comparing the Staten Island Ferry method of getting to Battery Park (vs. Liberty State Park).

Driving from Edison to the part of Staten Island where the ferry terminal is would be just as much or more effort (add bridge tolls & more traffic)as it would be just to drive to Liberty State Park.

It really is the path of least resistance - believe me.

Liberty State Park is definitely the easier and cheaper method.

If you're planning on going into NYC anyway then Battery Park is fine. Otherwise, stay in NJ.

I've done both and going from Liberty SP was much easier.

The NJ Liberty Science museum is also right at the LSP in NJ - they have some fun interactive activities your kids might like.

Liberty Science Center is great, but I thought I read on Fodors that they are closed during their renovation.

Here's the website. Just check before you go.
