Staten Island Day Trip from NYC
Hi!
I would like to take a day trip to Staten Island from NYC. I was considering the following: Sailors Snug Harbour Cultural Ctr, Staten Island Lighthouse (love lighthouses!), richmond town, Tibetan Museum, and anything else. I know the Tibetan Museum is great as I've been there before. However, is it worthwhile to visit the other places? Any reviews? Any places to avoid or go visit instead in that area? And is the Staten Island Lighthouse open to the public? Or can you just see it from outside? Any other NYC Lighthouses accessible and open to the public? I've seen the Little Red Lighthouse already. I noticed there is a National Lighthouse Museum in Staten Island, however, it is currently under repairs. Cheers, gtrekker2003 |
The Alice Austen Home Museum. She was a pioneer in photography and her collection is in the family estate.

Actually, Staten Island is IN NYC. Perhaps you meant to say that you wanted to take a day trip from Manhattan to Staten Island.
|
yes, that is what I meant. :)

Well- considering that the ferry runs about every 15 minutes 24/7 and takes less than half an hour - and it's one of the 5 boroughs of New York City - don;t think it qualifies as a day trip.
How do you plan on getting around while there? It's quite suburban - and public transit is limited except on specific busy routes to get people into Manhattan. |
I'm originally from Staten Island and there is a pretty good bus system that runs all over the place. I never had a car when I lived there. Not sure anymore of the routes but should be easy to find. Also check out the Staten Island Yankees stadium which is not that far from the Ferry terminal and I think on the way to Sailor's Snug Harbor.

Would it have been better if s/he'd just said s/he wanted to spend the day exploring Staten Island? |
Why are people parsing her sentences? Anyone that volunteers to go SI without provocation should be encouraged to do so.

Alright, I get it. Staten Island is in NYC. Moving on.....
Thanks for the tips. I do plan on this being a day trip as I want to explore several places.....starting at the beginning of the day and coming back home at the end of the day. Where I come from, we call this a day trip. I plan to use the public bus system to get around. |
