Starwood Points - which NYC Hotel
I have thousands of points and would like to stay in NYC next May. Which Starwood hotel should I choose? I've already ruled out St. Regis because that would be all of my points for the two nights. But there are so many others to choose from. Any thoughts?

A list of the possibilities would be helpful.

Not a fan of the Sheraton Time Square. So that may at least be one to cross off the list.

I have used my Starwood Points several times in NYC. I avoid the two Sheratons (Towers and Manhattan) unless that is all that is available and/or I was letting my college age kids have the rooms -
for my husband and I, we usually use them for the W in Union Square - we like the location, we enjoy the activities in Union Square and the hotel staff and rooms are both excellent. I have used it for other W hotels in the city, but this is my favorite W of all of them. Perhaps one of the W's would work for you - if not, then I would choose the Sheraton Towers over the Sheraton Manhattan and ask for the Club Level floor since you are Starwoods - it is really fine, it's more the lobby and the craziness of that hotel - with a lot of group bookings, that drives me a bit nuts, but once you get through the lobby, it's fine - esp the club floor |
W New York - Times Square
The Westin Times Square Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers on 7th W New York - The Tuscany W New York on Lexington W New York - The Court |
The W on Lexington has the tiniest bedrooms I have ever seen in an American hotel!
|
My vote would be Westin Time Square or W Union which does not appear on your list.
|
Oh, and I personally would say freak it and go with the St Regis, kissing those points goodbye in a grande gesture! Otherwise I stand by my previous choices.
|
LOL - But 35000 points for what I'm sure is their smallest room seems nuts. Thanks for the suggestions!
|
Agree with kealalani and 'freak it' and go with the St. Regis!
|
We loved the Four Points Chelsea when we stayed there last December. Very convenient, decent-sized rooms, newly renovated, complimentary wine, and good location for us.
|
Well, you won't be able to use your Starwood points at Le Parker Meridien eventhough it is a Starwood property. I spent a week there this time last year and spent over $3000, but no points.

The two W hotels in Murray Hill have the biggest rooms, but the W Union Square is a better hotel. Further down the list for me is the W Times Square or the W on Lexington Ave. in Midtown.
I'd probably pick a W hotel over one of the Sheratons, just because most of them are large convention hotels with little character. I always urge people not to stay in Times Square area, which is congested, annoying, and near overpriced not-very-good food options. |
Another vote for the W's except the one in Times Square.
Union Square W is the best. I think it costs the most points too. The Court and Tuscany W's are two doors down from each other in Murray Hill (Lex and 39th, I think) The W New York is midtown (Lex and 50th) has the most rooms, but they are small. W Times Square is in...Times Square. Not for me. |
Jumping in on a post here - but I thought it might make more sense than starting anew.
I'm having the same dilemna except I'm going just before Christmas this year. My choices are narrowed down because I need two doubles (I have four people in my party - myself, mother and a 9 and a 6 year old child. The Sheraton Manhatten or the 4 Points in Chelsea? 4 points seems to have consistently better reviews by my mother tires easily and it seems the Sheraton is closer to the action. I have never been to New York but travelled enough to know it's best to go to the experts as far as real distance. Any thoughts? |
I would stay at the Sheraton Manhattan - (or the Towers, but I gather that is not available for you on your dates by your choices).
The Manhattan is just outside of Times Square so you are removed from the action and yet it is surrounded by some good places to eat breakfast and dinner, get coffee, theater, etc and good location to branch out from. It isn't my first choice when it is my husband and I; but I have stayed there over the years on business, or when as mentioned above, was getting rooms for my kids - but we all stayed there two yrs ago when we had our elderly aunt with us to visit family b/c it was a good location for her since she also tired easily - and when my daughter moved apartments last year we stayed there the night before the move - |
Wow, I could have sworn there was a separate Sheraton on Park Ave at around 40th street, but not according to their website..I think I'm losing my marbles.
|
Ralphie, you're thinking of the Sheraton Russell that is....gone. It was at 45 Park Ave. (~37 st).
|
Thanks mclaurie!

Thanks for the weigh in - location probably is of utmost in this case.
I'm going to book now before that option disappears - early last week there were more choices! |
