Stardust and American West Airlines
 

Going to vegas April 28th 8am out of new york on america west. Staying at the stardust . Have heard bad things about america west any info would help. Also 4 guys in our 50's is the stardust hotel a decent place to stay. Thanks a million

Between the two America West is a far better airline than Stardust is a hotel. If you're in your 50's and want a "Vegas nostalgia" feel, Stardust will give it to you. It's old, worn and in the less desirable part of the Strip, far from the Strip's best attractions.
It offers good deals, of course, because that's what it takes to lure people away from the newer hotels.
Depends on what you guys want out of your trip and what's important to you. Stardust will offer a decent room at a good rate, nothing memorable. If you simply want a cheap base of operations to sleep in, it'll be fine.

4 guys in their 50's, it'll be a great place to stay. All the cocktail waitresses are around your age.

America West (HP) had some operational problems a few years back, with high numbers of cancelled flights, etc. However, they have really turned around, and in a just published study of airline quality using 2003 DOT data, it is ranked #4, just after Jetblue, Alaska, and SW.

You should be able to find the results in many newspaper, Tuesday 4/6. The study is done by U. of Nebraska at Omaha Aviation Institute, and W. Rank Barton School of Business at Wichita State U.

I hope you already have your prereserved seats......if not,get to the airport early as it appears that your flight is almost totally sold out.The only seats together are in the exit rows.There are a few aisle seats here and there.I have never had any problems with AmericaWest.Oh,they will have food for purchase, but I would suggest getting your own.Theirs is expensive and not too classy.They'll have beverages-coffee soft drinks etc.I havent been to the Stardust and know very little about it.Have a great trip!

Food?
I remember when there used to be food on airplanes.
Last few times I've flew domestic first class (3 different airlines) we didn't even get a snack.
I recently heard American isn't even going to serve food on 4 hour flights in coach any longer.

Ouch....that would be "I've flown". Not sure where "I've flew" came from...need some lunch I think.

Hey BeachBoi - how do you find out if your flight is full? We're flying AW Saturday to Phoenix. BTW - we've had better experiences with AW than with the majors.

America West: Fine. Far better than a couple of years back, with elderly planes whose seats featured blown-out padding and mystery stains. New fleet, better service, commitment to quality.

Stardust: Oh dear lord.... The accomodations are OK, but the location is just the pits. You'll be spending all your time shuttling back and forth between the hotel and the newer, busier, far nicer casinos south of there. And unless Wayne Newton is your ideal of entertainment, you'll be heading south for your non-gambling fun as well. I hope you're getting a rock-bottom rate.

smokey...I have a direct link into my TA's airline computer...so its like my eyes are his eyes.I get seat maps and availability much more accurately than going to the airline's website.
