Stamford Station, etc.

We will be spending January 1 to 4 in NYC, and are driving from NH to the Stamford, CT station to grab the train to Grand Central. Will parking be an issue? I've tried calling the parking lot number and no one answers, I've left a message and no return call so far. Also, we will be staying at the Marriott Marquis on Times Square, and was wondering if we should walk from the Grand Central to the hotel, or are we better off getting a cab? We means a family of three - husband, wife and young teenaged son. Long distance walking is not a problem for any of us but just wondering if a cab would be a better option. We have two pieces of small luggage (with wheels). Thank you.

I can't answer the parking question, but as for the walk to the hotel, it's just under a half mile....easily walkable with two small pieces of luggage.

The walk is a little more than 1/2 a mile. A taxi will cost around $5 or $6. tip included, and ride shouldn't take much more than 5 minutes.

Hi Nena
There is a big parking structure at the Stamford station. Parking shouldn't be an issue because most parkers there are commuters. Because of the holidays, parking should be plentiful. Have Fun!

Thank you everyone for your helpful responses. We will definitely be parking at the Stamford Station and walking from the Grand Central to the hotel. Thanks again - I know we will have a great time!

You may want to rethink walking with your luggage. I just returned and the streets were wall to wall people 24 hour/ day and with luggage you are going to run into problems staying together. Take a cab.

In response to BudgetQueen, the easiest way to avoid the street crowds is to take the escalator in the main concourse of Grand Central, walk through the Met Life Building, exiting on 45th Street. Turn left and walk to the hotel on Times Square.

HowardR, thanks for the tip. We will do as you suggested. Have a great New Year.

Just a quick note to thank HowardR for his excellent recommendation on walking from Grand Central to Marriott Marquis. Did exactly as you said, and got to the hotel in under 20 minutes. Thanks again - we saved a lot of time by knowing where to go when we got into Grand Central!

Anytime. Glad to be of help. I hope the rest of your visit was just as successful!
