has anybody stayed or heard of scorpio bayside location ??? on st pete beach

I'd never heard of them, but that's not unusual with smaller places (and even the not-so-small). We live in the area and I don't pay much attention to that aspect. I did look at their website--pretty slick. It took forever to get to a location map, but from that it's evident they are on Boca Ciega Bay. You won't swim there and though you can walk to the beach, if you are carrying much, it'll be some walk. The boat traffic on the bay can be fun to watch, but it wouldn't be my first choice for accommodations! <BR><BR>How did you ever hear of the place? Just curious.

found them on the internet looking for <BR>an apartment that is not high rise and <BR>has a pool - apparently it got an award for small superior lodging - it <BR>says on their web site that you can walk to the beach!!!!!!!!!!!!! <BR>thanks for your reply - if you can give us any other information we would <BR>be obliged or if you could recommend another place in the area (but not high rise). thanks <BR>

Paul you can walk to the beach. You are walking only the width of St. Pete Beach (the island, from the bayside to the gulf side), which is very narrow, ranging from a block or two at the extreme southern tip, to several blocks as you get further north, and this place is located at the northern end. It's just that it's a hassle if you are carrying beach chairs, cooler, and all the various other paraphernalia people carry to the beach. Most people prefer staying on the beach, and if you don't mind the fact that you are on Boca Ciega Bay and not the beach, then the place you found might be perfect for you. <BR><BR>I really wish I could help you more with alternatives but we don't have to stay and I rarely notice the places. Have you looked at the web page for the Tradewinds? Possibly Beach House Suites--though not sure what you consider a high rise, http://www.lodging.com/cgi-bin/netra...ate/&ID=248273, which is owned by the Don CeSar. <BR><BR>There are smaller Mom & Pop type places as well, but I'm afraid I'm not familiar with them. A friend is staying at Island's End next month, also listed on this website. I've driven by those and always thought they looked neat. They are at the extreme southern tip, as the name implies, and walking to the beach from there, even loaded down, should present no problems.

Sorry about previous message - as I was saying - thanks for the info you gave us we will look at the sites you mentioned - can you tell us if it is nice at the northern end of st pete beach - is it quiet there - are there <BR>many places to eat - we are taking two <BR>children - any places you recommend?

Paul, the very northern tip of SPBeach (where the Scorpio is located) is a finger of land which is actually east of Treasure Island. In other words, you will NOT be able to walk to the beach. I looked at their website too, and am disappointed that they claim that. The shortest route would be north, over a bridge to TI, then west. It would take about 30-40 minutes. It is in a residential area, no stores, next to an elementary school. You'll be happier at a motel on Gulf boulevard. Another alternative is a condo - great for families. There's a quite nice one, on the beach, on the south end of Treasure Island, called Land's End. I did a quick search on Google, and here's one rental by owner:<BR>http://www.a1vacations.com/mycondoclub/2/ <BR>Of course, condo units can be good or bad depending on the individual owner's taste/cleanliness, but this complex is immaculate and in a great location. (You'll still need a car though.) Try to get a south or west facing (beach) unit versus east (bayside) - the sunsets will be awesome. Hope this helps.
