St. Patricks Day in Savannah
Does anyone have any tips for Savannah on St. Patricks Day. I hear it is just wild. We were thinking of bringing our kids to the parade. Is this an ok idea? Any suggestions on what to do or what to avoid.
Thanks |
Yes, take your kids to the parade as it definitely is a family event.
How old are your kids? You'll probably want to stay off River Street because that is where it gets really wild. Have a plan in case you get separated from each other; you will not be able to hear your cell phones. Whatever you do, DO NOT flash for beads. The Savannah Police will throw you in jail. Where are you staying? Almost 500,000 people will come to Savannah for the festivities. |
Sure, if they like parades with bands and people marching, they will like it. It's going to be very crowded and if they are young, it might bother them.
Now, if you were planning to stay the night either before or after....forget it!! Hotels and Motels are full. The only way you would be able to find a room is by calling around and hoping to catch a cancelation. |
We were in Savannah a couple of years ago during this time. A must see is the turning green of the water in a huge fountain in the park in the historic district. It is a great city for celebrating St. Pat's Day. Many little children were all dressed up in their green and enjoying themselves with the adults, which typically happens in Ireland. I can't speak to the parade, however.

Thanks for the tips. Our kids are 8 we will be staying in Bluffton. They already have their green outfits picked out. They both love parades, so hopefully the noise and crowds won't bother them too much.

Parking is very tight - hope you or someone else has some creative ideas about parking.
