Any must do's/see's in Chicago during St. Patrick's Day?

Best Irish pubs/hang-outs?

Where is the best place to get Chicago style pizza?

www.metromix.com

Do a search here for Chicago pizza. Or Chicago Irish bar etc. as there have been probably one hundred threads on the pizza and ten or more on the pub scene. In that, you need to be more specific. Age? Part of the city? etc. It's a huge city.

There are so many disagreements re the pizza that I say you must read the long versions for context.

The best St. Patrick's parade is not downtown but on the Southside of the city alone Western Ave. - near Beverly. St. Patrick's week they (da mayor) dye the Chicago River green, but IMHO all the real Irish "stuff" is not downtown.

Definitely try to get to one of the true Irish pubs- Fado in River North, Hidden Shamrock or Irish Eyes in Lincoln Park are just a few. Metromix will give you more. The Southside Irish parade JJ talks about is the 11th this year. The downtown parade is usually the Saturday before. Here's the metromix link for Irish pubs.http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/s...h+pubs+chicago

There are plenty of good Irish Pubs in the city, but isn't Fado's a chain?

The south-side Irish parade is a lot of fun, it is held on the Sunday before St. Patrick's day (I've been going since I was a kid). Cork and Kerry is a good place down there for a drink.

Well, crap.

Guess I am missing the Southside parade.
Flying in the day before St. Patrick's day.

Yes, Fado's is a chain and is highly overrated.

The group I am going to be with in Chicago, wants to eat at an authentic Irish place.

Any suggestions on a place near the parade route?

One friend was told to go to Kitty O'sheas. There is a $10 cover that day, kinda steep if you ask me.

Also, are reservations recommended?

Bars, especially Irish bars, are packed to the rafters on St. Patrick's Day, and $10 to get in is not unusual.
