St Michaels or Easton?
I am in a friend's wedding in June in St. Michael's. I will be traveling from California five days before the wedding and am trying to decide where to stay for the several days leading up to the wedding. (We'll be staying at the venue itself the night of the wedding.) I will be traveling with my husband, two small children, and my sister and her two teen daughters. Although I would like to be as close as possible to the wedding venue, I am wondering if I should stay in Easton or St. Michael's -- which is better in terms of value, ease of getting around, and exploring? I am looking for something clean, casual, and friendly.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I know I'm not answering your question but I'm going to offer this as an alternative....
If I were headed to that area with a party that included two small children and a pair of teen girls, I'd spend the preceding days in DC or Baltimore where there is a lot more to engage kids and teens.
If you're there for 5 days, I'd do three in the city and go to St Michaels's for the remaining two. Nothing against Easton, a very nice place, but why stay 20 minutes away?

Take a look at the following site for all kinds of info:

Easton is larger. It is the country seat. Art and antique shops abound along with art museum and re-done theater.
St. Mike's has fewer shops and is more crowded on weekends. Good resto on the water.
We went to a wedding in St. Michaels but stayed in Easton-not too far away 15-20 minute drive.

Or you could do some days at the Atlantic Ocean beaches such as Ocean City or one of the Delaware beaches. Assateague Island National Seashore with its wild ponies is just outside of Ocean City or Chincoteague Island which is just south of there but is a little further away.
I would not come from California and then spend it all in either Easton or St. Michaels unless you're visiting friends. In terms of value, you might get a better deal in Easton than St. Michaels but St. Michaels really has more charm - just not enough for 5 days.

Thank you all! I think we're going to stay in a guest house just outside St. Michaels, which will put us close to the bride and the wedding in the days leading up to the big day. How hard is it to take public transportation to DC, if we wanted to spend a day there? We're going to rent a car, but we may not want to drive in. My friend mentioned the ponies, so we're going to try to do that for sure. Thanks again!

I've only ever been to the area with a car so I am unfamiliar with the area's public transportation. My guess is that if there is any in St. Michaels or Easton, it's probably directed at commuters.
Hopefully someone with local info will respond to your question!

If you want to go into DC one day, drive your rental car to an end-of-the-line Metro station in Maryland (Greenbelt or New Carrollton) and take the train to downtown. Or if you have GPS, you could drive to Union Station or National Airport for all day parking and Metro access closer in but without getting caught in the thick of downtown traffic. I doubt you'll find public transport all the way from Easton to DC.

This is from a friend of my who lives near there:
"I see a Greyhound coming and going from a convenience store on the edge of town. It's across from the airport and next to Norris Ford. Do you know where I mean? I'm pretty sure that bus runs all the way to Ocean City and then to Baltimore and DC and sometimes points north."
Check greyhound to find schedules. I daresay other poster is right about them being for commuters for the most part.

You definitely don't want to take the bus. Driving is not that difficult, otherwise take kayd's advice. I am local and do both, depending on the day of the week, what is going on, etc.
Annapolis would be a nice day trip, too.

If you have a rental car then for DC - Highly recommend driving to Greenbelt or New Carrollton and then taking the metro. Its all on major highways and an easy drive. Annapolis is great and not that far from Easton with an outlet mall on the way for the shoppers in the group.

We visited the East Coast for the first time this past Nov., our first stop was Annapolis, we dined at Aqua Terra. What a lovely town this is! Then it was over to Easton where we stayed at The Tidewater Inn for 3 nights. Easton is such a beautiful little town, we were right in the downtown area. It was just a short drive to St. Michaels from there. Even tho it was rainy, we loved this area! We had great meals at The Key Lime Cafe and Crab Claw there.
We also spent two nights in Washington DC at The Sofitel before taking the Acela to NYC for 3 nights at The Plaza. ***kim***

Sorry, I haven't been back to answer you, TDudette. This is a busy time of year for me.
The Eastern Shore of MD is not really well set up for public transport at all. That particular place for getting the bus is not a good spot and I have never seen business type commuters there. Commuters from Easton would drive all the way into DC or to New Carrollton and take the metro. It is much easier.
