Kayaking in Monterey...What to wear?
We begin our summer vacation in Monterey in one week and are so excited. It is our first time to visit.
One of our many outdoor activities will be one or more Kayak tours. I have checked accuweather and the temps I'm seeing are fantastic (we live in Houston and my keyboard is melting as I type this).
What would be the best thing to wear kayaking if it's cool outside?
In our neck of the woods it's always swimsuits, but I am guessing that won't work in Monterey. We assume we'll get wet kayaking...so what does one wear if it's cool out and you're in a kayak?
Thanks for any advice.

Synthetics, like you would wear on a hike or other outdoor sport (or even the gym). The newer wool outdoor products (like Smartwool) would be good too. You will freeze if you wear any cotton and it gets wet (which it will). If it were a warm day, I'd wear a synthetic tee under a lightweight fleece or smartwool jacket. Even if the air temp is warm the water won't be so err on the side of warmth. Hopefully you'll be in proper sea kayaks (as opposed to the sit-on-tops you see in warm water climates like Hawaii); in this case you will have a place to store a dry bag, which means you can store a jacket in there if you end up getting warm.

Adventures by the Sea provided us with coveralls and everything you will need to be out on the water, it does get windy in the afternoon on Monterey Bay. It's great fun, I hope you enjoy it! ***kim***
