St. Lucia Festival in Lindsborg, KS (Little Sweden USA)

Lindsborg, KS (Little Sweden USA) celebrates the St. Lucia Festival on the second Saturday of December. The Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers in their colorful folk costumes dance Swedish dances in the street in the downtown. A Swedish bake sale is held in the Courtyard. There is a ceremony in the Bethany Lutheran Church where the annual Saint Lucia is honored with a crown of candles. I've attended twice and it is quite enjoyable (but usually cold).

The town was founded by Swedes and is considered one of the premiere arts communities in Kansas, if not the Midwest. Its logo, the Dala Horse, may be seen throughout the town. Sometimes you can find Swedish cuisine such as Swedish pancakes, Det Bästa (a toasted croissant with Gouda cheese, turkey, bacon, and lingonberries), Swedish meatballs and the Dala sandwich.

PrairieHiker—

Thanks for sharing this tradition. I’ve never been to Kansas but hopefully will one day!

Best wishes, Daniel
