St. Louis trip report

Just back from St. Louis with three teenage boys. We stayed two nights at the Comfort Inn Southwest. I do not recommend this motel. The front desk clerk was very rude, had to practically beg for towels and extra pillows, and in general the place was very run-down. Went to Grants Farm and had a good time. We were a little worried that the boys would be too old but they had fun.
That night we went to the Soulard area for a Halloween haunted warehouse "The Darkness". I found it gruesome and a little scary but the boys loved it.
Sunday we went to Six Flags and spent the day. They rode every ride there except for the kiddie rides. There are some pretty good coasters there.
Monday we went to the World Bird Sanctuary and then hiked for three miles. Drove through Lone Elk Park and looked at the elk, bison, and deer. Went to Babler State Park and took a three mile horseback ride through the woods. The boys loved the ride, but one of the horses was sick (coughed continuously).
Monday evening we checked into the Lemp Mansion B&B (supposed to be haunted). It is very nice and very beautiful inside. Had two suites, one was cozy with a double bed, and a sitting area with couch and loveseat but the other one was huge with two big room, and a king bed. That night we went on a ghost tour of the house. The history of the house was very interesting but the ghost hunting was hoaky, but scary enough to frighten the boys. They wouldn't sleep in their room alone and we had to split up so that an adult was in each room. At night you can go all through the house (no caretaker at night) except the bar and the kitchen. Had lunch there on Tuesday before checking out (very good).
Tuesday we checked out and packed the car. Went to the Arch, went to the top and looked around. Then we drove back home.

Did you have any interesting meals out there? Did you at least hit Ted Drewes for the kids?

We had a wonderful and expensive meal at Tuckers in the Soulard area and had a very good lunch at the Lemp Mansion Restaurant. All the other meals were fast food. We had Smugula's pizza the first night - it was good. We ate lunch at Six Flags on Sunday - the boys had a turkey leg (wow - it was huge and smelled wonderful) we just had a burger and fries. Later that night we had Steak and Shake. Had a big breakfast of donuts and muffins on Monday and then a big dinner at Tuckers. Slept late at the Lemp Mansion and had lunch there. Did not make it to Ted Drewes.
