St. Louis in November

Group of 6 twenty-somethings will be staying in Downtown St. Louis for two nights in late November. Have several questions: 1. What is the weather like in November? 2. Any particular events going on at that time? 3. What about taking the Metrolink from Airport to downtown, or using Metrolink to get around downtown? How safe? (We do not plan on going anywhere outside the downtown area). Can we just walk to most of the attractions and museums? 4. Heard alot about "the Hill"... how far is it from Downtown area? Any info anyone can give (especially from locals) would be appreciated. Thanks! Dawn

Avg daily temp in Nov: 54 (hi) 36 (lo) Metrolink is very safe The Hill is a long way from downtown--you'll need a cab. Best hotel bet downtown is the Westin--very new, very nice, and connected to the Metrolink.

I just want to say that i think the average temp is a little deceptive. Right now it is 44. Rain/snow mix is forecast for later in the week. In late Nov it may be quite cold, and probably drizzly, or it may be in the 60s.

Dear Aloha: there aren't any cities in the central US which stay at the average temperature all month long. Wide swings in temp are the norm in the central US during most of the year. Not very useful to tell someone to expect temps between 30 and 70.

Weather is widely variable in St. Louis. We get all the seasons here, sometimes all in one day. For day outdoor activities, you might try Forest Park. Great free zoo, science center, and Art Museum. There are walking/biking paths. Some construction going on. Its also near Washington University, so you get some of the college crowd. You can take Metrolink to the park. Once you get to the Park, you can walk to the various sites. Its pretty spreadout. Some suggestions for restaurants/nightlife: U City Loop on Delmar (Blueberry Hill, the Pagent,etc.), Soulard (McGurk's for Irish Music), Central West End near Maryland Avenue and Euchlid. This is close to Forest Park. For events and other ideas, I'd pick up the Riverfront Times, which is a free newspaper with events. You can also check the "Get Out" section of the Post Dispatch which comes out on Thursday's each week. The Hill has some great formal Italian Restaurants (Giovanni's, Dominics) and some great not so formal (Zia's, Gian-Tony's, Ameghetti's, Gittos) You might want to check CitySearch.com.

also try stltoday.com. It will tell you tons about teh area and entertainment.. The Hill has many if not fancy Italian restuarnats. Lou Baccardi's is good. Charlie Gitto's for a bit more fine dining. Mama Campisi's is Fabulous! Many visiting presidents and entertainiers have dined here. It is a a little more than a hole in the wall but Good. You will need a car to get here. An area between the airport and downtown is Clayton. It is known for fabulous dining. Some suggetstions are: Shitake - asian flair Cardwell's- American beuatiful decor & food Cafe Napoli - Ital. Ritz Carlton for a good martini and sushi bar have fun!
